New Live-Action Transformers Movie, Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks with Michael Bay
Wednesday, July 13, 2005: Hasbro's site has just issued a firm-sounding release date of the new Transformers Movie. They write:

TRANSFORMERS WILL BE MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE AT THEATRES NATIONWIDE ON 07-04-07
The live-action “Transformers” movie has been set to open nationwide on 07-04-07, it was jointly announced today by DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), and Paramount Pictures.

The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming “The Island,” “Armageddon”) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (upcoming “The Island”). Steven Spielberg (“War of the Worlds”) is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming “Four Brothers”), Tom DeSanto (“X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”) and Don Murphy (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) serving as co-executive producers.

In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, “Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that ‘Transformers’ is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.”

“Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen,” said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro’s U.S. Toy segment. “With some of the entertainment industry’s best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful.”

DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film’s creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film.

This week, DreamWorks is launching the official “Transformers” movie website (www.transformers.com) at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 – 17 in San Diego, California. “Transformers” will also be making its presence known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area around the DreamWorks booth—and much of the convention floor—letting thousands of fans know that “Transformers” is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07.

Monday, July 11, 2005: A slight speedbump reported by Producer Don Murphy last evening. He writes,
"The writers have been lured off to work on Mission Impossible 3…which will delay us indeed….no script in sight…"
Earlier today, he carified by stating,
"What is happening on Transformers is what happens on films ALL THE TIME. Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks, Hasbro and I are committed to making a GREAT TF film. We'd rather not make an okay one. And so it is taking longer than we hoped to get off the launch pad. We still will launch. It will be GREAT and then we will make sequel after sequel."
I for one hope Mr. Murphy sticks to his guns. I would far rather see the new Transformers Movie done right rather than rapid!

No need to wait to say this:

THE MOVIE IS GOING TO SUCK.

Besides, check the "team" and their "productions" (The Island, War of the worlds, League of extraordinary gentlemen), yeah real "winners".

There's nothing new and nothing good, creativity and entertainment in Hollywood is DEAD.

Ok Ivan you have a point, League of extraordinary gentlemen did suck.

The others were pretty good flix. Hell the problem with Hollywood these days is DVDs. There going to DVD way to fast. Used to be you would have to wait along time before a movie was released on DVD or VHS for that matter. We could get into the debate about how the internet and p2p sharing has destroyed Hollyweird.. Not going to happen..

As for the Transformers movie, with Speilberg as the producer. I think he'll make sure it's watchable. War of the Worlds is a decent flic. Nothing I would pay to see more then once but I wasn't complaining and wanting my money back. Then another one you quote. The Island, isn't even out yet. So bzzzzzzt doesn't count.

there's a reason why they arent on tv any more

Believe it or not the Power Rangers are still on TV and are going strong with the 4-7 year olds. Get some children, you'll be amazed at what's on TV still.

I LOVE the Transformers and this idea doesn't make me that happy. I have the Original movie and the TV show on DVD...been thinking of finding the Japanese versions that never made it here....never been a fan of the animal version.

Michael Bay only makes bad movies! Spielberg seems to have been infected by George Lucas and now makes bad movies that are all FX and NO story.

Ivan was right - this movie will suck.

Yea well, you are probably right. Still it's an awesome idea... Live action Transformers would be so freakin cool! C'mon who wouldn't love to watch a 75' 18 wheeler transform into Optimus Prime.

And why are they going fast? because THEY SUCK, and can't hold them at the theathers because the studios will lose money, but DVD's are a different thing, they are DIRT CHEAP to make and sell them for $30 bucks a pop, the price of roughly 3 tickets, and don't forget the merchandising. Entertainment? NAH!!!, just make money and quick.

NOT TRUE, if the movie is good, people will go see it, pay the ticket price and see it THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE...IN A LARGE SCREEN AND KICK ASS SOUND, but, why bother, if the movie is just OK or plain SUCKS, download the sucker of the net, watch it half way and DELETE IT off your hard drive.

I do my share of downloads, but if the movie is awesome, I go to the movies and watch it, the bootleg is to play it at home over and over and "study it" until the DVD is out and BUY IT, and get rid of the crummy bootleg.

Well, trust me, is going to suck.

Dude, like you've never seen AD NAUSEAM "morphing" effects, geez, you can even do that with FREEWARE over the net.

Quite frankly, there's nothing good out or coming soon, is either a "remake" or a "special effects" fest. Neither is worth the ticket price, stay home, watch AMC or any other channel, GOOD movies in the comfort of your home.

Are we having a bad day?

No dude, not at all, I'm just expressing my opinion, the same way you're doing it.

I'm not bashing your post or anything, don't get me wrong, I love movies, I like to be entertained just like the next guy, but if we look around, we see NOTHING, that's all bud.
