highfly 0 #1 October 31, 2005 A lot of skydivers that I have met are mostly IT pros. IS this because they can afford it or is it more a case of needing an extreme sport to deal with the extreme boredom of your jobs? www.myspace.com/durtymac
tweak 0 #2 October 31, 2005 I'm a developer. I work as a consultant to BellSouth. My job isn't that boring most of the time... My ADD helps out when things slow down. The pay is nice, it does help with this sport.
ebusto 0 #3 October 31, 2005 As much as I hate the label 'IT,' as it is much too general, I'll bite. I'm a Unix admin by day. It is moderately intellectually stimulating, but most of the time, quite boring.
seekfun 0 #4 October 31, 2005 I've always been an adventurous sort. I kind of stumbled into IT after college and the military because I had accumulated some skills and it paid well. I've been at it just long enough now that even though it's f&%^($G boring, it pays pretty well and I can afford to climb, ski, jump, buy cameras and whatnot. So, for now, I stick with it."...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

Fun & challenging. 4-way skydiving is challenging too, but in a different way - it's more about challenging who I am & the way I see and react to things, whereas IT is all about what I know and my ability to deductively reason.
