ZigZagMarquis 8 #3 May 14, 2008 You could probably get what y'all need from these... http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/ ... guys, but they too seem kinda pricey and I'm not 100% sure what exactly to order from them to turn into bootie soles.
mnealtx 0 #4 May 14, 2008 I've always wondered why the manufacturers don't use something like a lightweight dress shoe sole (or similar) for the bootie. The answer is, of course, money...but for a replacement, it seems do-able as well as more dur-able...Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. UDSkyJunkie 0 #5 May 14, 2008 I bought a leather coat at goodwill for 4 dollars and cut it up "Some people follow their dreams, others hunt them down and beat them mercilessly into submission."

Yes, this is who I'd use. I wouldn't order it online though. Find a store near you and go check out the leather in person. You can sometimes find some nice splits for not too much and will work really well for booties.
VideoFly 0 #7 May 15, 2008 We have a craft store called Michaels around here. I bought one-foot squares of thick leather for my booties there. The leather comes in brown and black and they run about eight dollars each. After making my new booties, I Shu-Gooed them and they will last for years. Broke 0 #11 May 15, 2008 A split is where they basically seperate the back of the leather from the front. It is left over if they need to make a thinner leather. I used a split for my packing weight, but I wouldn't use it for booties.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
ZigZagMarquis 8 #12 May 15, 2008 Now I'm really confused... What would you suggest getting from these... http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/ ... guys if you were going to order from them?
mnealtx 0 #13 May 15, 2008 These are normal splits in, I believe, 4-5 oz weight. Another option is a little heavier leather (more durable) such as a latigo could also work very well, I would think.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. You just have to visually make sure it's the quality and type of split that you want and need for booties. That is why I wouldn't get them off the Internet. I wouldn't be able to feel and see for myself if it's the kind I wanted.
