Getting past firewalls

Recommended Posts

A few months back, there was a post talking about a website/websites that would let you get past those pesky firewalls. Does anyone know what it was? Or know how to get past? My work won't let me get into certain sites that have words that may seem inappropriate for work (and no, not porn sites but sites like classmates.com or even shopping sites)

thanks!:)

Use google language tools as a proxy. Basically you are translating the page from English, to English.

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.forbiddensite.com

Replace www.forbiddensite.com with the site you want.

Press enter.

Enjoy.;)

Okay, here's the link:

http://www.dickinson.edu/~grinspaj/hopster

After you've downloaded the file, add the .exe extension to the filename. Then you can run it (it's a setup file).

Sorry, Mac users, it only runs on Windows.

Thanks for the link man, but that shit's got spyware in it. :S I'm sure the program is safe, it's the crap it's bundled with I don't like.

Ya I'm anal, I read EULA's :P

I got the hopster and set it up. It says it is working but when I go to blocked sites they are still blocked. The firewall here isn't setup through the proxy or anything I am not sure exactly how they do it. HTTP tunnel used to work but it doesn't work anymore. What I need is something like HTTP-Tunnel that I can run on my home computer and just tunnel through it. For the moment I have to resort to remote desktoping to my home computer then just surf from there. Or if you can tell me how to get hopster to work for IE that would work too. ;)

Hi,

The firewall at my work doesn't block any websites, so I can't test the IE settings for you, but supposedly you just have to configure your preferences for SOCKS:

Proxy Type SOCKS (4 or 5)
Proxy Address 127.0.0.1
Proxy Port 1080

Not sure if hopster fills in that stuff automatically in IE. I use Firefox.

Good luck!

Best way would be to use PuTTy to put up an SSH tunnel to a machine on your home network. You can tunnel to the port for MS's Remote Desktop or VNC. This opens a secure link that lets you use the remote machine and you can browse the web from there.

I don't know the port numbers off hand.

Let me know if you need config help with it.
