WhirledWeb 0 #1 May 5, 2006 My best friend is doing her first tandem on Sunday, and I want to play the best skydiving songs for the drive to the DZ. So far I've got: Frou Frou - Let Go Madonna - Jump Van Halen - Jump Tom Petty - Free Fallin' Joel Kraft - Freefallin Cowboy Area - Parachute Kriss Kross - Jump (sigh... I'm so embarrassed right now) and i've also got a clip of Jerry Seinfeld's Skydiving Helmet routine.... any other suggestions? I'm not too particular about genre, etc... just looking to set the mood. (not sure if "blood upon the risers" would be good for a newbie getting ready for her first jump) -Mark . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Darius11 12 #4 May 5, 2006 high Speed dirt by Megadeth QuoteDo it if you dare Leaping from the sky Hurling thru the air Exhilarating high See the earth below Soon to make a crater Blue sky, black death I’m off to meet my maker /chorus/ Energy of the gods, adrenalin surge Won’t stop til I hit the ground, I’m on my way for sure Up here in the air, this will never hurt I’m on my way to impact, taste the high speed dirt Paralyzed with fear Feel velocity gain Entering a near Catatonic state Pressure of the sound Roaring thru my head Crash into the ground Damned if I’ll be dead /chorus/ Jump or die! Dropping all my weight Going down full throttle The pale horse awaits Like a genie in a bottle Fire in my veins Faster as I go I forgot my name I’m a dirt torpedo High speed dirt...I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
Lindercles 0 #5 May 5, 2006 Quote Frou Frou - Let Go Damn, I've got this one on my list of songs I'll use when I start flying camera someday. Eventhough that's a long way away, I figured it was pretty safe. Guess not. Nice call though.
lawrocket 3 #6 May 5, 2006 I like"Flying High Again." The lyrics in particular I liked were due to my mom's expressed disapproval of it and not wanting to even hear about my "golfing" expeditions. "Momma's gonna worry cuz I've been a bad, bad boy No use saying sorry, it's something that I enjoy." My wife is hotter than your wife.
za_skydiver 0 #7 May 5, 2006 Tom Petty Freefalling is my favourite skydiving song, but each to their own. --------------------------------------------- Once you have tasted the dream of flight, you will forever walk with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. - Leonardo Da VinciSome dream of flying, i live the dream... chronistin 0 #16 May 5, 2006 I never quite understood what the song is really about, but "5 Miles High" by the Turin Brakes sounds like a skydiving song to me: QuoteWhen brothers and sisters fall to the ground in half hast harmony With lives of dreams 'fore their wide eyes But small reality And I really like the sound, too. Sugar Ray's "Fly" is a little overly sweeeeet, but has a nice refrain to sing to: "I just want to fly". Icon134 0 #20 May 5, 2006 I like this song by the Newgrass (Bluegrass) group Nicklecreek "When You Come Back Down" You got to leave me now, you got to go alone You got to chase a dream, one that's all your own Before it slips away When you're flyin' high, take my heart along I'll be the harmony to every lonely song That you learn to play When you're soarin' through the air I'll be your solid ground Take every chance you dare I'll still be there When you come back down When you come back down I'll keep lookin' up, awaitin' your return My greatest fear will be that you will crash and burn And I won't feel your fire I'll be the other hand that always holds the line Connectin' in between your sweet heart and mine I'm strung out on that wire And I'll be on the other end, To hear you when you call Angel, you were born to fly, If you get too high I'll catch you when you fall I'll catch you when you fall [Bridge:] Your memory's the sunshine every new day brings I know the sky is calling Angel, let me help you with your wings When you're soarin' through the air I'll be your solid ground Take every chance you dare I'll still be there When you come back down Take every chance you dare, I'll still be there When you come back down When you come back down But I'm wierd... itllclear 1 #23 May 8, 2006 QuoteHow about suggestions on what *not* to play: 1. Queen - Another one Bites the Dust Walt Back in the late 70's at Perris, they would often have 60 static liners in the FJC. Since the winds came up every afternoon during the summer, the FJC had to wait until about an hour before sunset. They would send up the DC-3, and make three passes with 10 on each pass, and then come down, pick up the rest, and do it again. The "Up Jumpers" were through for the day, so we would all hang out by the Bomb Shelter and put "Another One Bites the Dust" on the jukebox. Out of the 60 static-liners, at least one would get injured enough for the ambulance, which came over from Sun City about an hour before sunset so they would be ready. Rarely did they go home empty.
