Anyone taking Celebrex?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to avoid taking it because I've heard that once I start I will have to continue.

I've got all sorts of wicked arthritis. Instead of taking it, I've been staying active and taking ibuprofen when I'm in major pain.

Anyone out there taking it?

Is maximum relief just a couple of pills away?

I was prescribed Celebrex. It worked really well relieving the artho pain.
Heres the bad part....it has some signifigant side effects....one of which it can cause rapid weight gain, as it did to me. I had to quit it and go back on the pain meds cuz I couldnt control the weight .
If you can deal with the side effects it does the job on arthritis

Just get a script for it. The stuff works really good if used properly. I have used it for several things over the years and don't have any complaints. I only take it occasionally and not on a daily basis.

I just lost a bunch of weight - and being thinner actually helps my lower back arthritis. I don't want to gain it back!!!

Taking it as you suggested - occasionally - might be the way for me to go. I have the prescription - I've just been holding out. I figured I'd start taking it when I couldn't get out of bed and stand up. I haven't reached that stage yet, but my ankles are killing me.

I work in a medical office that has several patients who use it and this is the first I have heard about weight gain. Remember with injuries you do gain weight from not being active. The people in our office are actually pretty thin that take it on a daily basis for arthritis. Talk to you PCP about the side effects.

I was initially mystified about the weight gain. I went to the Celebrex website and read the fine print.
Its tells you all about the side effects, including the weight gain in certain users......who I am unhappily one.
Ya always gotta read the fine print.

hmm... i've not heard this before, that once you start you'll have to keep taking it... my wife has rheumatoid arthritis and has taken it on a prn basis w/o problem.

also, i was prescribed it for a brief time after screwing up my elbow. no problems, no weight gain, nothing.

as with any cox-2 inhibitors or other N-SAIDs, I would caution against prolonged exposure of any kind.

I've been on Celebrex 200 - 400mg/day for years.

It completely relieves the pain of past sports injuries and surgeries. No other medicine has worked this well for me.

No side effects.

I was prescribed Celebrex for a herniated disc. Worked great! The only draw-back was having to go to the clinic for blood work. One of the side-effects is possible liver damage. After losing weight and working out for over three years, the doc took me off of Celebrex. I also have arthritis. I take Glucosamine (500 mil) with Chondroitin (400 mil), twice a day. I have felt no arthritic pain, my hands and other joints work quite well. Talk with your doc about all this and see what he says. I learned of the use of Glucosamine in arthritis horses. BTW what I take, i get at walgreen's and it is for humans!:D

I might have to investigate this alternative instead. I really don't want to take prescription drugs if I can avoid them!

the Celebrex, was costing me $100.00 per month plus $75.00 for taking my blood! The Glucosamine with Condroitin is fifty bucks for 240 tablets. Watch for the 2 for 1 sales at Walgreen's.;) I am not a doctor but, it works for me. Check it out. I told my doc what I was taking and he told me to "Keep it up!". 1-capsule in the morning and 1-before bed-time.

Not at all - I am just sometimes surprised that being married for so long that THIS particular lesson hasn't been applied.

See - the inflections in the typing didn't appear to your mind as they did in mine.

Ahhh as in refreshing Ahhh, Paedwan was said with a slightly Porno voice, either (Ron Jeremy or John Holmes), and there was some "Dum shick shick a wawaaaaaa" in the back ground as well.

I always look forward to teaching my students.
