Whats your Name and what do you do for a living?

Recommended Posts

My name is Phil Polstra. I write computer software (C++ mostly for the last 11 years). Currently I work for a company that writes software to manage bandwidth on broadband networks (i.e. cablemodems, DSL, wireless, etc.).
My company has a skydiving team, consisting of myself and two others. We are trying to learn to freefly. I managed to get the company to buy us company logoed jumpsuits. I've gotten 35% of the company to skydive so far. Now if I could just get one more team member....

My name is Faye Taylor- I'm a land title investigator- I research public records in courthouses for folk who are selling or refinancing properties across the state of Georgia. I go to a different courthouse every day, so I get to really see the beauty of the state and am never bored with the same old office routine. I also work for myself, so if I want to work a half-day(or just take off), and I can afford it, I do.... :D LOVE the diversity of our family!

My name is Shawn Blue. I am a Technical Support Consultant. Basically I sit here and wait for the phone to ring. I talk to people all day who are too lazy to open up the book we sent them telling them how to run their machine. I worked as a high school substitute teacher for fun one year, and I dabble in web design (http://www.skydivehastings.com).

Hey everyone. My name is Marteen and I work on the corner of 97th and.....just teasing...I am an auditor. Yes, I just said the "A" word, but I am hired by the government to audit government ministries to ensure they are spending their money where they say they are. So not to worry, no personal taxes here! lol lol

i pretend to be an engineer for a large consumer products company that isn't making enough money so is laying people off and i volunteered to take the separation package, so i'll be able to skydive for a month, then i'll be broke again, so i'm open for suggestions.... Anyone? anything? anywhere?
oh yeah, i also coach volleyball teams and do some freelance photography, neither of which can subsidize skydiving, but are far more rewarding than pretending to be corporate...
hmmmm... what to do... what to do...
i think you should have also asked how many jumps do you have and what discipline: such as 315, RW & Freefly, camera

My name is Terry Brann, and I am a molecular biologist at a biotech company in Maryland, working on therapeutic gene delivery using modified adenovirus.
I'm getting a bit tired of biology, and the pay isn't so great considering the expensive areas where you have to live to work in biotech. I've recently discovered that I love screwing around w/ computers, and I gradually learned that on average, a molecular biologist like me with a Masters degree and 14 years experience makes at least $10K less than a network IT specialist with three or four years experience, so I'm working on a career change-getting MCSE certified,(and later Novell, Cisco certifications). More money for jumps! :)Speed Racer

All these techies here.... interesting. My name is Joe Deal. Appropriately enough, my job is separating people from their money. Specifically, I sell storage management software at a company called Astrum Software in Boston.
I've got 27 jumps to date and my primary specialty, if you can call it that, is landing on my feet. But I'd like to learn how to freefly. And if anyone comes up with a joke about my name that I haven't heard yet, I'll buy you a jump.

mmm finding lost of techies on a online bulleting board... mmm.. I'm not sure its too surprising.... ;)
Might as well fill in the jumping info: comming up to 700 jumps (680 something), and do pretty much only RW... would like to do more CRW (2 jumps), but dont want to sacrifice the free fall!!!

Me, James Eidson, "big time" Painting contractor, with excursions into buying and selling stuff.
I prefer dressing up in blue tights, red underwear, a cape and a big "S" on my chest, then jumping out of a marginally good aircraft and landing at a school for the mentally disabled. Not much money in that, but you know...

Just be careful about the claims you'll get from some people trying to sell you MCSE training. Yes, there is a demand. No, you aren't going to get much money if you don't have several years experience. With a fresh MCSE and no experience you'll have a hard time getting a job. Not trying to discourage you, just saying you should know what you're getting in to.

Well, this is pretty cool, and long overdue!
My name is Andrea, and I'm the editorial manager at a leasing inspection company in Portland, OR.
It' nice to see what everyone does when they'd rather be doing something else (wonder what that could be....)!

My name is God, and I am creator and master of the universe.
Oh wait...that's my alter ego. When I put my glasses on so noone can recognize me I pose as Kevin, a systems engineer working as a consultant primarily with MS Systems Management Server in Philadelphia, PA. Actually primarily surfing the web and collecting a pay check so I can afford to go skydiving.

Yeah, Dutchboy, I know, I've been looking into this. I realize that for the first year or so I'll probably have to actually go DOWN in salary compared to what I'm making now, but from what I've been learning, in the long run I'll do better. Especially after I get a couple years network experience under my belt. And as for getting experience, there's a fair chance I could just transfer to the IT department of the company where I work now, after I get certified.
Problem is, as a scientist I'm currently getting barely cost-of-living raises (~4%) once per year. Once a year my employers raise my salary another 90 cents an hour, and the landlord raises my rent another $50 per month . :(
Anyway, I want to try something new.

Oooh this is fun. What a neat group! And, OH MY! if all of us computer geeks got together in here, we could have one heck of a big-way.
Anyway, I'm Lara, and my father and I together run a computer school in southern CA that most likely competes with the schools that Sinister works for...(hey Sin, wanna come work with a fellow skydiver?) I rarely teach the classes and try not to get stuck with the tech stuff, so most of my days are filled with meetings where I try to convince corporate bigwigs that it is not okay for their staff to look at a mouse and say, "what is that?"
But that is just temporary...anyone who knows me will tell you that I am convinced that I am destined to win the lottery. So when the millions start rolling in, watchout because I may just go berzerk and fly all of you out for a dz.com boogie at my own personal dropzone. WOOHOO!

My name is Carl Dunham, and I run a small software company that does R&D on targeted marketing. We are a sub of NetZero, the coolest (free) ISP on the planet.
What this really means is that I spend my days (less the 60% spent here :)
I get to travel out to Southern Cali on a regular basis, so I plan my trips to include a weekend or two so I can hang w/my buds at Perris and ElSnore.
Love you all!
Carl
