LisaM 0 #1 August 30, 2006 Would you let your kid join in? If so, which would you prefer AND WHY so we can make an educated decision. The forum would be separate from this site. So no they can not get on this site from it. I personally think a forum would be better. I have one where I have to approve all members (we can require a parent mailing address) and where each post has to be approved. I would take on that task to make sure it stays cleaan. I would keep each parent's email address to ask opinions if need be. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
matthewcline 0 #2 August 30, 2006 I actually wanted to vote for the forum and mailing list. My Daughter has been around DZ's and Skydivers her whole life and she would get a kick out of meeting others her age (she is almost 11, going on 21).An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
chrissylicious 0 #3 August 30, 2006 I choose mailing list because my daughter realy only gets online 2 or 3 times a week."I will stick you with a rope"- ME

matthewcline 0 #5 August 30, 2006 As a Dad who is buyiing fire arms cause he knows what is on a teen age boys mind, e-mail. She would ge ta kick out of it I am sure. It would also be a way to make any other DZ trips fun if she had a "pen pal" to meet.An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! KenGoff 0 #6 August 30, 2006 Mailing list. A forum is more real-time and conversational, which I think would send my kids off the deep end in their desire to be on the forum all the time.
LisaM 0 #7 August 30, 2006 I'll keep this bumped for a while to get more parent's votes. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
Scoop 0 #8 August 30, 2006 I say yeah, as active forum members. A police forum I go on has 'junior' members but they have restricted access. Like can't access the equivalent of the bonfire and cannot fill out any profile information or receive PMs for safety. Maybe have their own space in the communtiy section?
 rbrcokflichk 0 #9 August 30, 2006 When you are talking kids, what age level are you talking? I mean my girls come with a lot to the DZ that I feel is more child friendly but very very rarely are they allowed at "the other" place. However, there are some kids out there that have worse mouths at age 11 and 12 than I do. Do you plan on having a cut off to when a kid is not deemed a kid anymore? I mean technically it's 18 - but I certainly don't want a 17 year old or even a 15 year old conversing with my 8 year old. I did however vote that the forum was a good idea, just not sure how you would implement the age thing. Cheers! Aimee I'd rather have an awkward morning than a boring night!!!
 LisaM 0 #10 August 30, 2006 We can make different age groups. But then, my kid is at that age where he's at the old end of the age-lump thing and that bores him. We could do something like 8-12 and then say 13-15 and then 16+. What do you think? Edited to add: I can limit it by age as well. And we can do a parent verifying their age. Yes? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
 Scoop 0 #11 August 30, 2006 Erm, I'd probably say 15 or 16 and you get adult access. You'd be jumping at that age (if you really want to keep it inline with the DZ) and socialising anyway. Certainly 16 is an age in the UK where you are no longer considered as a minor in the eyes of the law, you can be tried as an adult for example. Difficult to please all but I think thats sensible and knowing kids they'd typically only talk to similar age groups anyway unless its to make fun of each other! No PMs and I guess a no posting email/MSN/ICQ addresses in posts rule too. Bit griefly to organise it all I'd imagine but thats my thoughts!
 LisaM 0 #12 August 30, 2006 Yeah, I doubt we'd have man 16 year olds anyway. Most of that is setup.
