How Much Are You Paying for Gas?

Recommended Posts

$2.08/gallon in Central Ohio.

For those that have cars that are "required" to run on premium...

Engines can be designed to make more power when premium (higher octane) gas is used because the the compression ratio can be higher and ignition timing can be advanced more - higher octane gas resists pre-ignition or 'pinging'. This pinging was very common in high compression engines of long ago, and people would retard the timing from normal spec until it wouldn't ping. Preignition is very bad for the engine. Modern engines prevent pinging with sensors that detect the sound and automatically adjust to eliminate it.

Some automakers will require premium gas because their engines can be designed to make more power if it uses a higher octane fuel. In order to be able to advertise the higher power output, they must tell you that the higher octane fuel is required. There is usually some disclaimer in the owner's manual that admits you can use a lower grade gas if no other is available. The engine will make slightly less power because the ignition timing will adjust itself.

The guys in the engine design group at Honda R&D admitted to me that there is no other reason for the premium fuel requirement. This should apply to other manufacturers.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Do you have Kroger's, HEBs, Sam's Club or Wal-Mart in your area with a fuel center. I've seen all of them do that sort of discount with fuel/store purchases. Not sure if *all* of their stores do it, though.

I know that all the Wal-Mart stores I've been to (East TX,South East TX and North Central TX) are doing the gift card mark-down thing. All you have to do is go in and buy one if their gift cards (they only cost like $1-$2) and put as much $ as you want on it,no minimum, and then go fill up at their gas station using the gift card and you get $.03 off every gallon. Our local HEB is giving them a run for their money so its keeping Wal-Mart low and is starting a "lowest price war" so I suspect its going to keep going down. I filled up at Wal-Mart yesterday and it was $2.15 ($2.12 w/the gift card).

My mom thinks its stupid to run inside the store to put $ on a card just to run out to the pumps and get $.03 cheaper gas,but I dont care.I drive a 1/2ton truck and like to save as much as possible.Even at $2.12 it takes close to $50 to fill my tank and back when it was near $3.00 I was paying almost $80...so walking a few extra steps for a few cents per gallon doesnt bother me.Those $.03 per gallon add up over time.

Dont buy from citgo, its owned by venezuela , the guy who recently said he was going to destroy America:

Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government

Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela , told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela , was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq , the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!

The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.

Take Action

Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government?

Very important. Please forward this to your friends and family. Most of them don't know that Citgo is owned by the Venezuela government.

YOU CAN VERIFY THIS ON THE CITGO WEB PAGE.

It's consumer reported prices and lists the lowest prices reported in the last 36 hours.

That's not current enough in this climate. I'll drive by a gas station on my way to the DZ. It's one price in the morning, and maybe a nickel difference in the evening.

$1.39 AUD for one litre!

Ouch...that's worse than my part of Canada...

3.79 litres per US Gallon @ .94 Cad/gallon = $3.56 CAD per U.S Gallon. US/CAD exchange rate today of.89 cents US = $1 CAD = 3.56 X .89 = $3.17 US per US gallon.

$1 CAD = $1.18 AUD so your CAD price works out to....3.79 x 1.39 = $5.26 AUD/US gallon or 5.26/1.18 = $4.45 CAD x .89 = $3.96 US per US gallon.
