Helping people without using money

Recommended Posts

hey guys-
I would like to hear about how some of you help people out, without using money. It's tempting often enough to use money to bless someone, to buy them a meal/clothes, but what are some ways you've helped others out by donating things other than money? ( Such as time) :)
I just love these kinds of topics. B|

1. Volunteer (shelter, domestic violence shelter, children's hospital, etc.)

2. Use your talents to help someone one on one--what can you do? (Fix a PC, help somebody move, help a senior with some task so they can stay in there home)

3. Listen to someone, really listen. Maybe somebody is depressed, and needs an ear (and maybe a question/suggestion to seek help.)

What do you like to do?

J

Haven't been involved in this for the past couple of years but for about 10 or 12 years prior, I used to volunteer for our Youth Bowling Council (yeah, don't bring on the bowling jokes here ... save it for another thread!).

I was lucky as a kid to have mentors and coaches in the sport (5-pin bowling) so I thought I would give back.

I spent many a weekend with these kids coaching them, cheering them on and more than many a night in a hotel somewhere making sure THEY stayed in their rooms (or a the very least, stayed in the hallway with me where I could see them).

I recall a time where I tied two boys INTO their room so they wouldn't run amok throughout the hotel (or with the other 16 year old girls that were IN the hotel)!! And they thought I was cool for doing that.

It's really cool to see these former teenagers now ... some are 25+ years old and doing well in the sport and their lives.

And it's cool when they tell me that I made a difference in their life. That I was part of the reason they turned out the way they are.

It was time well spent.

Ah ... now you made me want to get back volunteering with them.

Hmmm ... got some free time ... guess I could.

I used to volunteer at the local Elementary school a few hours a week and now I spend the time in my little brothers class helping out. A few years ago I used to volunteer to run a local snowboard event here in town. I did that for almost 8 years. Basically I would call and get free stuff from local stores and reps and then raffle(free raffle) the stuff off to poor snow bums/college students. It was a lot of fun for everyone.

What about your male friends? They can get breast cancer too.

Or testicular cancer... but you don't care about them, do you? Don't offer to help them out.... [:/]

Silly girl. October is not Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, now, is it? :P:D

Ahhh. I see so in April or June (for the Brits), you're going to reach over... grab your buddies sac and tell him - "It's cuz I love you man." :P:P:P

N-E-ways...

I've seen people do things like babysit, fix cars/bikes, offer a place to stay, give hugs/kissies,hospital visits, pen pals to prison mates, inviting someone over for the holidays, cleaning someone's house, basically just using their talents and gifts to help others out. :)

Look, I'm already helping. Between your and my exchange right here (admittedly moreso your's), they've got 6 months advance notice to do it themselves! Let's both pat ourselves on our backs right now. In fact, if you stay still, I'll get your's too. ;)
