matt3sa 0 #1 January 1, 2007 Hello everyone. I have a Crossfire 1 139 on the way DOM 2001. I've identified it as a recalled canopy. I've read almost everything on the net about the recall. Here's the question...... I asked the seller if the recall had been performed and if there was a tag indicating completion. His response was "it was relined 50 jumps ago and the reline takes care of the recall". Is this true? Is it simply a line trim issue? Thanks, Matt
skycat 0 #2 January 1, 2007 The short answer, yes the line trim change fixes the issue. The long answer is do a search of the forum to find out what the crossfire issues was all about.Fly it like you stole it!
matt3sa 0 #3 January 2, 2007 From what I understand, the canopy will buffet and sometimes that nose will roll under. I also read stories about the ends rolling under. I'll be sure to thoroughly test it out up high before I get into low front risers.
johnny1488 1 #4 January 2, 2007 Some of the original crossfires had services bulletins pertaining to them. None of them were recalled. And a reline done in accordance with the service bulletin will take care of the problem. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" icevideot 0 #5 January 2, 2007 The original issue with Crossfire 1 canopies was not completely a line issue. There were also some out of tolerance cases in the sewing of the canopies. Most of the canopies were fine, some were marginal and were relined to increase safety and reliability and some were deemed to be unairworthy. If you want the true story contact Mel at http://www.skyworksrigging.com/ His dropzone handle is masterrigger1 and he was very involved in the identification and solutions to these problems. With questions involving your safety like this, it is fine to look for answers in the forums but always confirm them from a trustworthy source. After all, what do I know anyway? skycat 0 #6 January 2, 2007 Yep my 1st CF1 was deemed unairworthy, Icarus made me a new one that doesn't have (or need) the line mod and it flies like a dream....Fly it like you stole it!
