Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel and being being rushed to the hospital, one of her lawyers said.

Smith collapsed in her room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and was rushed to a hospital on Thursday. A Hollywood, Fla., fire department spokesman told MSNBC TV that the actress was unresponsive when the rescue unit arrived on the scene and had been intubated. Smith was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. EST and her attorney confirmed that she had died nearly an hour later.

On Tuesday, Smith and the diet products company TrimSpa Inc., for which she is a spokeswoman, were sued in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight loss pill is false or misleading.

Smith also was order by a judge to have baby daughter undergo paternity testing. The test is being sought by Smith's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead, who claims he is the father of Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern. She was born Sept. 7 in the Bahamas.

Less than a week after the birth of her daughter, Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel died in her hospital room while visiting Smith after the birth. An coroner's report ruled the death was caused by an overdose of anti-depressants and methadone.

Smith married Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994, when she was 26 and he was 89. He died the following year.

She then feuded with Marshall’s son, Pierce Marshall, over her entitlement to the tycoon’s estate before he died in June at the age of 67.

In the long-running dispute, Smith had won a $474 million judgment, which was later cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero. In May, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Smith could continue to pursue the fortune in federal courts in California despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall’s youngest son was the sole heir.

This story is still developing. Please return to MSNBC.com for more details.

If that's true, I feel bad for her new baby-- with all the crap going on about paternity . . .

Apparently it is true.

Can't help feeling sorry for her; as screwed up as she was, she still had feelings...and with the recent passing of her son within 2 days of her daughter's birth, and then the whole paternity thing with the new baby - all this after the fight over the $$ from her husband and the death of one of those claimants and the whole addiction stuff she went through...man, I just feel sorry for her.

News is that she was at the Hardrock Hotel, and not in a casino but in a room. Someone called for help, first responders came, and she was pronouced dead at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood Florida. She hadn't been well for a few days with "flu like" symptoms...

Sad story all the way around.

Thanks for posting that. I agree entirely. She was a walking tabloid, but she was still a person.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Agreed. Very sad.

With almost Half a Billion Dollars at Stake (The amount her Husband left her even though its been tied up in courts for years) I wonder if foul play has anything to with all this. First her son.. Then Her with people fighting over who the father of her daughter (And now sole air) really is.

What a Chaotic life.

It's a sad thing for a parent to lose a child. But for her daughter to never know not only her brother but her mother also. Let us just hope she grows up knowing that her mother was also a "real" person. Not just the person all of us read about in the news and watched on TV. My heart goes out to her and her family.

I agree with this sentiment also. I just hope the courts can find *someone* who can give the little girl she left behind a loving and stable home.
