damion75 0 #2 November 27, 2006 I would have a peer in the gear section, under main canopies, Icarus / Aerodyne. This may give you some ideas about the differences. Pilot is a great choice... but everyone has their own favourites. I would recommend against the Crossfire right now, but I'm sure you'll think the same once you have read about it. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. brianfry713 0 #4 November 27, 2006 Icarus recommends at least 500 skydives to jump a Crossfire2. It's a high performance canopy that demands attention. It's very elliptical, opens soft, dives pretty well, and has a ton of flare. The safire2 opens really slow and has a very short recovery arc and high front riser pressure. The pilot is nice, but I've only done a couple of jumps on them. My favorite in the intermediate canopies is the Sabre 2. So far, my favorite advanced canopy is the Katana. candace 0 #5 November 27, 2006 ah, i see......thanks, that helps
 Vectracide 0 #6 November 28, 2006 Candace, I have owned both the Safire and the Crossfire. As far as opening characteristics, they are pretty much the same....but if that is if you have good body position. Safire is more forgiving than the Crossfire. Flight characteristics are in 2 different classes. One is what they call "semi-elliptical"(safire) and one is "fully-elliptical"(crossfire). For a jumper of your experience, I believe that you will get the most benefit with the Safire out of those 2. I have not jumped a Pilot, so I cannot comment on that. What I can tell you, is that the Safire opens very very nice, it has very good long spotability, a huge toggle range, and massive flare power. This is a very good canopy for those looking for that "between" canopy. One that is higher performing than a square, but much safer and managable, while still being exciting and educating all at the same time. It's a good bet. I must resonate the previous poster on the Crossfire not being the right canopy for you at your current place and time. As much as some people will say that it is fine for you right now, if you haven't owned either the Safire, or Pilot, or Sabre2, or any other semi-elliptical.....the Crossfire2 can get you in a heap of trouble in short order. Give one of the others a chance first....I'm sure you won't be disappointed. B. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
