BASE for my Birthday

Recommended Posts

So I know i don't have shit for jumps but I have some friends that are avid BASE jumpers and I have an invatation to go do my first BASE jump for my birthday. I really want to do it but I'm pretty nervous. I told myself that I would wait untill I had atleast 100 jumps before I did my first BASE jump.

Today is my Birthday and I want to go to Twin Falls and jump of the bridge. I need to act now because I have shit to do tonight and I'm looking at 3 hours each way.

shit, what to do? I probably won't go, I have way to much to do with the party and lunch and dinner with everyone but damn I really want to go.

What would you guys do?

If you only have 33 jumps then DON"T!!! You need to be comfortable and confident with your skydiving shit before you add something like base to it. There is no rush into base man. Enjoy your birthday with your friends and play it safe.

Happy birthday to ya!!:D:D
If I stand on my tip toes, I can see the weekend from here!

I know nothing. Now with that out of the way. I thought that the suggestion is to have like 300 or 400+ skydives before getting into BASE, so that you are able to be stable and everything. Once again I know nothing. Please Advise.

Thanks sweetheart!! I'm thinking I will go and hang out and watch a bunch and get the feel for what is going on before I do my first BASE, I haven't even done that yet so for now I will chill and enjoy my birthday. Thank you for not jumping down my throat though....even though I would love to have you jump down something of mine!!!

I will do it sonner than later but I think for today, I don't have time...shit I want to blow it all off and go jump though. YOur the shit though Jim!!!

Oh, and happy birthday. Do whatever the hell you want to celebrate, you only live once, right? ;)

Yeah...if you have never been to watch base jumpers before, you should at least go and do some ground crew. I'm actually surprised your friends would let you jump without doing ground crew first:|
The slightest movement on opening could cause an off heading opening. I'm glad to hear you'r playing it safe and just enjoying the good times while you can. Again, life is long if you don't do stupid things like jumping from a bridge before you should. ;)

You're talking about jumping the bridge today? How cold is that water down there? And how is your landing proficiency? Just a couple of things to consider... :P

I'm not going to jump today, I think I might tomorrow though. I know I will go hang out at the bridge with eveyone tomorrow, not sure if I will jump or not. I'm not sure how cold the water is, I hope that I won't have to find out. And I have stood up all but two of my landings thus far. And I am very accurate with the landings.

One thing you might want to check is just how many ambulances, life flight choppers and hearses were called out to that 'safe bridge' last year alone.:(

Now don't get me wrong, BASE is something my ambitions are firmly fixed on too, but I think a spur of the moment deal is probably not the best way to go about your first try;)
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

I would go skydiving, and wait until I had a lot more jumps (at least 200) and maybe a few more birthdays before BASE jumping. You could always plan ahead and go for your birthday next year, or the year after, or...

Of course first getting the required practice skydiving, doing the drills under the parachute you're going to BASE jump (or one very similar), learn all you can from your friends, learn about the gear, and then maybe even actually taking a FJC would be the recommended route.

Oh you are such an old fuddy duddy. What could possibly happen? I mean, damn, he's stood up all but two of his 33 landings and he's really accurate. :S

on the flip side of all that there are many people who BASE without ever having skydived.
You are a grown man of presumably reasonable inteligence, weigh the risks for your self and go from there.
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)
My Life ROCKS!
How's yours doing?

If it was me I would do my research first... want to know everything I possibly could about what can go wrong, how to fix it when it does go wrong, learn from the BASE fatalities list... wait till I had at LEAST 250+ skydives and felt confident that I could land in a confined area etc...
That and watch a few people successfully do it first.
Definitely take a first jump course and pick the brains of any BASE jumpers you meet.
