Pammi 0 #1 April 7, 2007 Hey everyone! I've missed chatting with ya all. I'm obviously still alive and kicking. I have a coworker just learning to jump that is just killing me with her stories every Monday. I swear I feel like I need a cigerette after we chat. If I ever get up in the air again I might pass out from the airgasm! Anyway, I could use some help. I'm doing the college thing after all these years and talked the prof into letting me write my persuasive paper on skydiving. Basically, I'm going to try to convince her that we're not all crazy, there are some safety precautions and she wants me to show her WHY we do it. It seems obvious, but apparently I need citations to back up my point. Can any of you direct me to some really good articles I could use? I'd love to find some stuff about the psychology behind skydiving, accomplishments like Jump for the Cause or anything compelling you can give me a link to. Thanks! tbrown 26 #4 April 7, 2007 Jump For the Cause has their own website, I believe. Since skydiving is an "extreme sport", I'd look to psychology literature about what motivates risk takers; mountain climbers, scuba divers, the big wave surfers who use jet skis to tow them out to sea. What motivated the Wright brothers or Charles Lindbergh ? There are a few of us who aren't satisfied to sit on our asses watching life go by on a TV screen and there's plenty of literature written about that. JumpinJules 0 #6 April 7, 2007 I came across an article probably 2 weeks ago that was talking about trying to use skydiving as a recovery method for drug users..... it basically said that drug users are addicted to the adrenaline and risk of taking drugs as well as the feelings they get after taking it.... they were trying to compare that to skydiving, and said that skydiving may be a good substitute for people trying to get clean..... I was trying to look for the article for you, but I couldn't find it.... maybe you could dig a little deeper than I did though I know the article has to be rather new, and I found it online somewhere... just can't remember the website... sorry!Into the great wide open/ under them skies of blue/ out in the great wide open/ a rebel w/out a clue..... We'll certainly be back, before too long hopefully. I'm keeping Merrick busy on house renovations right now - we bought a place last summer. That is when he's not teaching our oldest daughter to drive (because she scares the Hell outta me so I avoid riding with her whenever possible!) or showing our little one how to do all kinds of crazy stuff since she takes after her daddy and will try any stunt! He's looking at getting our boy a dirt bike too, so I'm sure visits to the hospital for both of them are in our future. Email me and let me know what's new with you!
