Terrier Dies Protecting Kids From Pit Bulls

Recommended Posts

"WELLINGTON, New Zealand (May 2) - A plucky Jack Russell terrier named George saved five children from two marauding pit bulls, but was so severely mauled in the fight that it had to be put down, its owner said Wednesday.

George was playing with the group of children as they returned home from buying sweets at a neighborhood shop in the small North Island town of Manaia last Sunday when the two pit bulls appeared and lunged toward them, Allan Gay said.

"George was brave - he took them on and he's not even a foot high," Gay told The Associated Press. "He jumped in on them, he tried to keep them off.

"If it wasn't for George, those kids would have copped it."

One of the children, Richard Rosewarne, 11, was quoted in the Taranaki Daily News on Wednesday as saying George fought with the pit bulls to keep them off his 4-year-old brother, Darryl.

"George tried to protect us by barking and rushing at them, but they started to bite him - one on the head and the other on the back," Rosewarne said. "We ran off crying and some people saw what was happening and rescued George."

But George was so badly mauled that a veterinarian had to put him down, Gay said.

South Taranaki District Council official Graham Young said the two pit bulls had been impounded, and likely would be put down because of the attack.

In New Zealand, owners of dogs judged to be too aggressive can be required to have them neutered and dogs involved in attacks are destroyed. "

What a brave dog. He's only 9 years old dog. http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/terrier-dies-protecting-kids-from-pit/20070502100909990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001:o

Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

But, but, but pit bulls shouldn't be considered any more dangerous than a golden retriever, right?

:S

People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

There have been a spate of atacks here recently including one woman being killed.
So it's front and centre in the news including a report that some folks (not your normal law abiding types) are feeding "P" to there dogs to make them even more aggresive.>:(

Pit Bull = evil, bad, extinction is imminent
Cairn Terrier = darlin' little shit (unless you're a crab)

Shit rolls downhill

Pits can be dangerous, so can any other dog. I remember when I was younger tha doberman pichers had the same wrap.

don't ge me wrong, if I saw a pit coming at me viciously, I would do everything in my power to kill it before it fucked me up.

pitts are naturally aggressive, not naturally viscious- that is a learned trait that some asshat owners either encourage or lack the intelligence to recognise that they may have that one dog in a thousand that is evil tempered... both are unfortunate:( just like some people shouldnt breed, some people should never own a powerfull animal.

A fair number of dz commers have met mine, he grew up on the dz, never been in a dog fight, never hurt a cat (caught him sleeping with one once) if the cat runs, he will chase, once it stops he loses interest. he is 80lbs and around 6 1/2 years old.

I cant imagine ever owning any other breed.

I agree up to a point. I've had dogs all my life and I'm a firm believer in that it's how you raise them, but you have to agree that certain breed are more aggressive than others. That being said you have to raise them differently. Specific breed that are prone to aggression,e.g. Pits, German Shepards, Dobies, Akitas require an experienced dog owner.
