DSE 3 #1 June 23, 2006 Anyone here got an instruction manual for the old-style Dytter? L&B's site has been down for a couple days, and I'd like to get going with one, but don't know how to set the altitude values.
MrBrant 0 #2 June 23, 2006 turn the dial slowly counterclockwise until it beeps. the point it beeps is your ground reference. Each tick in the dial is 1000 feet. Turn the dial clockwise until you reach your desired beep altitude. With these old ones, you can also fine-tune them in the plane. (example: if you set your beep for 3500 feet on the ground, and it beeps at 3200 feet in the plane, simply turn it up 1/4-1/2 a division) Make sense? Or do I suck at explaining things? DSE 3 #3 June 23, 2006 Nope, that makes perfect sense. I kept rotating it counterclockwise, and no beep, so figured I was doing something wrong. In spite of being told it has new batts, I just now removed them after your instructions and measured them on a VOM. They're next to dead. How long should the batts go on these? Thank you very much for the concise explanation.
ltdiver 3 #4 June 23, 2006 QuoteHow long should the batts go on these? For a weekend only jumper they've lasted me for years. I've had my old style dytter for about 8 years and have only replaced the batteries once. ... btw, I believe Square One (our local gear store) doesn't carry those specific batteries anymore, so if you find a place that does let me know....k? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

councilman24 36 #6 June 23, 2006 I could never get mine closer than about a 1000' on the ground. Had to reset in the plane or check on where it was going off.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

DSE 3 #13 June 24, 2006 QuoteI found some at Wallmart last week. Found em' there too, behind the watch counter. Also learned that while the unit calls for the #399 battery, it also accepts and works fine with the 355 battery. Much easier to find. Thanks again for the help, folks.
