Skydiving skills that convert to reallife

Recommended Posts

I have mastered all the skills necessary to become a great trash collector.

I have learned that when the powers-that-be don't give shit, I'm wasting my time if I give a shit.

Listening to my elders.

If I fall down, I can pick myself back up.

Humility. Anybody that lands on a gas station HAS to have humility and a good sense of humor.

Driving a bus filled with screaming meemies all going full-tilt at the same time.

Patience...nah, I don't have that skill yet.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

I have learned that I can have fear, but fear cannot have me.

This equates to having excellent risk analysis and taking calculated risks :D Coupled with the ability to think clearly and effectively in highly critical situations :) makes me a great candidate for a fast pasted critical environment.

The PLF works almost as well in snowboarding as it does in skydiving.B|

Skydiving GREATLY assists me in my career. I am ALWAYS nervous before appearances, etc. Heck, in my first jury trial I lost 8 pounds in two weeks - sometimes a wreck.

But, nothing has scared me like my skydives. Nothing has ever made me pucker like that. And I think of the techniques to calm myself prior to it. "Jeez, I've hung on to the outside of an airplane at 13,000 feet and let go. This is nowhere NEAR that scary."

And it helps with preparation and practice. What can go wrong? What will I do if this happens? What about this?

Along with the military, skydiving helped make me a great, "What if" thinker. Plan, prepare, practice, jump, assess, pull, assess, land, say to self, "You're fucking nuts."

I can open a bottle of beer without a bottle-opener using a variety of things found around the DZ setting, everything from aluminum signs to B-12 snaps.

In the working world lots of things are "emergencies" and people get all stressed about them.

To me, an emergency is going through 1500 feet with nothing above your head.

Everything else is just a problem. :)
