Zing 2 #3 February 3, 2008 Eleven years ago I bought a new pickup truck. Driving back home after having a campershell mounted on it, I had a few dollars left over and saw a sign at a major oil change shop that said, Lifetime oil and filter change $59.00. The vehicle now has almost 200,000, and has had its oil and filter change religiously every 3000 to 3500 miles. When they chnage the oil, they also air up the tires, fill up the windshield wiper fluid, wash all the windows and check out all the belts, hoses and fluid levels, etc. while its up on the rack. A few years ago they added a $1 fee for oil recycling. I figure I've spent less than $100 on oil and filters for this truck since I've owned it. I just giggle every time I stop in the shop.Zing Lurks
Beerlight 0 #4 February 3, 2008 How many miles do you put on in a year? And how many miles between oil changes? I used to go only 3000 miles between changes, but now I go at least 7000 on my 8 y/o Chevy Silverado.....

Beerlight 0 #6 February 3, 2008 I hear ya, but I still bumped up my mean time between changes after last year.... I'm prepared to drop in a new engine down the road anyways (if so needed)!

I'm going to put a Ford rebuilt engine in soon. This one has a pretty hefty rattle in the cam bearings. 150k on the current overhaul. Soon to be 300K on the engine.Russell M. It sounds like to me you either work(ed) at Jiffy Lube or you're just over-zealous about changing your oil. It's not going to hurt changing at that early interval, but it is a waste of money and resources. Spend some time here http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ Most new car manufacturers recommend 7500 mi or 6 months, and 5000/3 months for severe conditions. Personally, I have done one and plan to do synthetic oil changes every 5k in my new 07 4Runner. It's below what the manufacturer recommends and WAY below what is recommended for synthetic oil. dannydan 0 #9 February 4, 2008 " Jiffy Lube...over zealous"??? nah! Just plain old fashioned about this area of vehucle maint! I owned a 1998 Intrepid! I bought from the original owner who told me that the engine had been replaced at the 47000 mark.... I had this car for 3.5 years and the engine seized halfway to an out of town drs. appt... I was 45 miles either way from nowhere with a broken car! That was MY FIRST vehicle since I started driving (1979) that blew a powerplant.... I started researching about the Dodge product after a mech friend told me that these engines were "doomed" from creation.... Have a look see here; http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Dodge%20Intrepid%20oil%20passages%20too%20small&ei=UTF-8&fr=opera2 I don't have time to join or be apart of a CLASS ACTION..... I am not sure if that is still on going or not, but it wasn't for me! It was a shame to b/c I really liked everything else about the Intrepid... I guess JASPER ENGINES are either making their own replacements or boring the passages bigger. I will just continue to waste my money on oil changes! All $600-$700 annually for 4 vehicles! But while I do enjoy smoking cigs, I think I would quit spending that money first and save .....what....$2500-2700.00 annually... DAMN three years i could have a NEW custom rig! But then I would want some Tequila after sunset, and then that involves cigarettes..... The VICIOUS CIRCLE we call life!!! It just all sucks....
