murrays 0 #1 October 2, 2005 I recently replaced the battery in my 2nd generation iPod with a 2200 mah replacement battery from Newer Technologies. They send you the tools necessary to open your iPod without damaging the case. I had it done in maybe 10 minutes. After I charged the battery up I started the iPod playing my song library to see how long it would last..22 hours later it was still going!! I think the cost was well worth it. The service from Newer Tech was great. If you need a replacement battery for your iPod I think you will be pleased with the results if you get one from these folks.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
ltdiver 3 #2 March 2, 2008 I know, almost 3 years later from your post....But "Search" pulled it up first when I put in "iPod Battery Replacement". I have a 3rd Generation iPod (40GB model) and can't justify getting a much smaller HD (or too expensive large HD) new iPod. Now looking to replace the battery that holds only a 50 minute charge now (after 3 years of owning it). Are you still happy with the purchase you bought at "Newer Technologies"? Or would you recommend someone else now? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
murrays 0 #3 March 2, 2008 Hi Lori, The battery nearly exploded! After I had owned it about a year here is what happened....one evening I was charging the iPod and noticed it getting very hot and the iPod wouldn't work properly. I took the iPod apart and looked at the battery ... everything worked fine when the back case was off. When I tried to put it back together it would not close. Then I noticed that the battery was thicker...I took the thing out and put it in a can in the garage. A couple of days later it was as thick as the iPod itself. So, it turned out to be not a good purchase. But, I have never heard of anybody else having a similar problem and they seem to sell lots of replacement batteries so it is likely worth the chance....or, you could trade in the old iPod on a new one...I think Apple will give you a $50 credit if you bring it into an Apple store. Or, they have the current generation iPod Classic 80gb on sale right now for $209 in the refurb store online.....I buy most of my Mac stuff from the refurbs. I just got an 8gb iPod Touch....I think it is awesome!!! It's a pain not having 20 gb of music with me (I have 25 gb in my Library) but I have a few smart playlists set up that gather up new, unplayed music, etc. and it works for me. I've been using a 4gb 2nd gen Nano for about a year and really like it. Sometimes not having a particular song is a pain but I can always find something else on it to listen to. I'll likely carry both the Nano and the Touch around. The Nano is nearly indestructible and I really don't care if it gets scratched, etc so it's nice to have it stuffed in a coat pocket. Its so light you really don't even notice that it is there. The lightness is the main reason I like it ... holding my old 2nd gen iPod feels like a brick in comparison. I still have the 2nd gen iPod and use it in my Civic rustmobile with a cassette adapter and power it from the lighter. I know this wasn't much help....but I thought I'd throw some things out at you. ltdiver 3 #4 March 2, 2008 Quote The battery nearly exploded! Wow! Since I leave my iPod plugged in while sleeping it wouldn't bode well to have it melt and perhaps start a fire with a battery like that! Didn't know Apple had a trade-in offer. I'll have to look into that. I'll call them tomorrow (Apple store is a 45 minute drive away, so it wouldn't work to drive all the way down there to be told 'no'). I joined a gym this past week and everyone's running around with their MP3 players hooked on. I feel so left out....edit to add: Found Apple has a Recycling Program that gives you a 10% discount off a new iPod if you bring your old one in. Guess this is what you were referring to... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
