learn more about rigging (in general)

Call Para-Gear.
Ask them to mail you both volumes written by Dan Poynter "The Parachute Manual, a technical treatise on aerodynamic decellerators."
"The Parachute Riggers' Study Guide" co-authored by Dan Poynter and Mark Schlatter, is another good book.
Finally, ask Para-Gear to toss in a free catalog when they ship your order.
That should give you a few evenings worth of reading.

For packing manuals, service bulletins, etc. go to:
www.pia.com
yellow pages
visit various manufacturers' websites, etc.

There is also an excellent master list of service bulletins on the Australian Parachute Federation's website.

You can read as much as you want, but it's hands on that really gives you the knowledge your after. So handing..., hanging out at the loft is going to get you what you want.

Good Luck.
HPDBs, I hate those guys.

Here is a great article that will give you a whole lot of directions to go. Good ones.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
