Wow, sounds like a cool skydiving movie :P
Skydivers, The (1963)
"A couple own an airfield which makes its money on skydiving in the middle of New Mexico. They are having marital problems because the man is cheating on his wife, but remains true to his wife. The woman he is cheating with is jealous of the man's wife, so she seduces another guy to conspire with her to kill him. Meanwhile, the wife is cheating on the cheating husband with the husband's old Army buddy..."

This one really appeals to me, as it seems that no matter how bad the situation, everubody is getting shagged;)

I know there was another 007 movie....

Bunch of skydiving clips from various james bond movies in the /James Bond/ folder on my site.

Golden Eye (chases a porter off a cliff, catches in in freefall)
Living Daylights (parachutes out of a freefalling car, lands on a boat)
Moonraker (the classic fight in freefall for the single parachute)
The Spy Who Loved Me (Skis off a cliff, opens round)
Tomorrow Never Dies (HALO jump into water)

Dave

And wasn't it in License to Kill when Dalton get out of a chopper, ties a line from it to the tail of a cessna that the bad guy is flying and then parachutes into his own wedding??

I thought "Cutaway" was entertaining also. You can't really consider "realism" as factor in determining what skydiving movie to watch. Otherwise we could eliminate all the James Bond films immediately, right ? The only psuedo-documentaries of a sport that did well in the theaters were Endless Summer (surfing) and On Any Sunday (moto-cross).
I've got to say that for every character in Cutaway, I know a skydiver like that. Competition-obsessed, having purple hair and weird clothes, financing something through a drug operation, leaving a job and moving to the dz... Anyone you know here ? Also, if you look carefully, you'd be surprised at the people in the film that you have met on a dz somewhere.B|
Add "Eraser" to the list of movies with skydiving in it. Arnold shoots down an airplane with a pistol while under canopy.:D

i just watched cutaway last week... like the man said, skydiving porn! crappy plot, bad acting, cool action shots, and lots of them. kind of liked how they could use the same canopies for freefall, base and lugging a bunch of drugs. seemed very versatile!:P

Crappy plot, I've got to agree. I am not sure what kind of plot would lend itself to a skydiving movie. I've thought about it. No ideas. I understand that the Bridges of Madison County has some great plot and dialogue.;)
However, there was a lot of skydiving in it. Woohoo!B| Loved the swoops.

that's the problem with mainstream movies... they have to appeal to a wide variety of people to be profitable at the expense of authenticity. most people (whuffos in this case) would not notice the discrepancies and errors, but a skydiver would. i like movies with tractor trailers in them, because they never seem to get that right, but as a used-ta-wuz driver, i notice them, even look for them! still, it was a cool movie from an action standpoint.

the scene in fandango was awesome as well... i wanted to edit that out and show it to first jump students. just let it run through, then stand up and say, everyone got that? good, let's go skydive then. :D

Fandango was hilarious. The "exit in a modified frog position" first-jump course cracks me up. There is good jump video out there. Joe Jennings does awesome stuff. I own "Good Stuff". Developing a movie plot is difficult to begin with. Building it around skydiving makes it tougher.
I'm a computer geek, so we get the "can people really..." all the time. Movies make it look like you can take a computer and hack into the Federal Reserve in 3 minutes. It takes me at least 8.;)

Fathom was a bit awesome because of Raquel Welch packing a parachute in a bikini (yeah, hot ya know). But how about this movie I was doing a Google search on?

DON'T MAKE WAVES starring Tony Curtis, Claudia Cardinale and the late Sharon Tate as the skydiving babe Malibu. How about the stunt in the plane where she's ready to jump and Tony not only gets in the way....but falls out of the plane without a chute? Sharon Tate to the rescue...oh, and they land holding onto each other into a pool! Classic comedy for a 1967 flick!

I just caught an episode of Myth Busters last night in which they attempted to bust the skydiving scene in Point Break. You know, where Keanu Reeves jumps without a rig, catches up to Swayze, they have an arguement in freefall and then land holding onto each other...
Why didn't they just ask...anyone who's ever been skydiving could've told them there's NO WAY any of those things (except maybe one) could happen in reality.

If memory serves me correctly "Dont Make Waves" is the movie that Bob Boquoer{Bad spelling, but the SCR-SCS guy] dies in while filming. It was believed he drown after landing in the ocean.I thought it was once reported that no water was found in his lungs and he was limp in his harness breaking his neck on opening. The weight of all the cameras whip lashed him. I remember a motorized Nikon F was over 14 lbs to only take 35mm. pictures. I have an N-2 Corsair gunsight camera. shooting 16mm movies with 24 volt waist belt battery pack. That camera type shot air to air combat scenes for TV series like "Ba Ba Black Sheep

If a tv crew shows up and asks you questions, the response should be, "If you pay for a few skydives, I can test that theory for you..."

I always wondered about the talking in PB.
You can talk inside the burble of a raft. If you are on the outside of the raft and get your face on the edge, you can hear a little also. (Lots of hooting/hollering going on.)

Another time, I was in an 8-way base when a girl got into her slot between me and another guy. We were flying tight shoulder grips. On the ground, my buddy asked me, "Did you hear that girl yell 'Wahooo' when she docked?" :D:D

I have often wondered if you were doing a Mr. Bill like the PB jump and were that tight, would the burble allow some, of a conversation to be heard ?

Opinions?

Yes, well - Mythbusters is a nice show, but remains a show.
Walking up to a skydiver and asking them three questions lacks a certain je ne sais pas, doesn't it. At least the crew has to be seen 'taking one for the team', destroying stuff (by throwing that dummy out of the aircraft) and buidling stuff to test something.
Hence grant builing that small windtunnel before getting to the real one. I mean, they probably knew full well that standup vs flat was going to get them differences, but at least a model of a windtunnel is something they can build;)

Made for a good tv. One of my favorite episodes to date. :)I kind of figured they had to do all of that stuff because plenty of people out there are dumb as rocks and need multiple visual aids and explanations to get it.

.01% of the population are active skydivers.

99.99% are not.

Since we don't have 9999X the disposable income of the general population to spend on advertisers' products (especially with skydiving and cross-over activities like flying) something for them will be more lucrative.

Besides, they wouldn't have a show left if they scrapped everything that wasn't nearly obvious to subject matter experts.

Personally, if I were working for myth busters I'd go for the stunts that'd be the most fun, Skydiving is arguably fun. Building working ejection seats might be funner (I'm down to one car which is too nice to cut a hole in the roof)

Oh, I hated that scene. Not just unconvincing in skydiving terms, but some of the worst blue screen/ green screen FX work I've ever seen! Quite liked the rest of the movie though.
