skyfox69 0 #1 February 13, 2006 Look for info in the Diablo 190, any info, insight, advice is appreciated. skyfox69
wmw999 2,382 #2 February 13, 2006 I have a 135 and really like it. Do some searches in here, there are a number of threads about it, and look at the reviews. Respect it in a turn. A lot. sdctlc 0 #3 February 13, 2006 I have a 150 in one of my backup rigs. Opens great, turns VERY fast, nice overall canopy. Some oversteer and does not surf well as it is a 7 cell but it will surf a little. I still like it and and even flew it this weekend. Do a search and lots of info should pop up Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
livendive 8 #4 February 13, 2006 Diablos are fun all-purpose canopies with a little kick of zest. I've used mine for my 10 PRO jumps, CRW, flag jumps, birdman jumps, decent-sized formation loads, even pond-swooping (a little ways) at a demo. They open soft, turn quickly, can get reasonably flat on rear risers, and flare fine. I'm pretty bored with mine as an every day canopy, but am keeping it for its versatility anyway. YISkyDive 0 #5 February 13, 2006 I have a 170 loaded between 1.2 : 1 and/ or(depends if I am fat that day- haha) 1.3 :1. It is by far the fastest turning canopy I have jumped. I have jumped a Nitro150, and Xfire2 149. The Xfire2 149 would match the turn rate (not exceede in my perception) but to get a similar speed turn I had to take the toogle much deeper than on the diablo. The diablo is a decent platform to learn advanced flight concepts on- it will teach you how to use your harness well, and it will also teach you about flying very actively. Make no mistake though- a turn low to the ground on this canopy will not be forgiving, even at a lower wingloading. I have faster decent speeds on toogles than on risers- I have also done a 1260 started at 3000 feet that was started by riser and finished by harness.. the decent speed was 55MPH! That is quick... You need to fly the canopy actively, but it is a lot of fun. Openings are good- and the surfs are acceptable.. but you need to flare right on. Its a good learning platform- but I do find that other canopies a size smaller dont compaire to it one bit. I jump a specter150 as a back up rig- the specter doesnt even come close in terms of turn speed, decent speed, and harness turns- and it is a size smaller. Just learn your flat turns and be ready to use them- a 180 at 100 feet would not end pretty. If someone would ask me if Id jump a diablo again for 175 jumps- id take it all over again. I love it, and will continue to jump it. Its a great toy, and, to me, its one of the purist canopies in terms of flying + 550 feet. After that- just know its not a swoopers choice. Be safe- I hope that helps
tdsnyr99 0 #6 February 14, 2006 If you've never jumped one and are trying to buy or try one you will be hard pressed to do either. It is an eliptical canopy so most Manufacturers or gear stores won't sell them to you with your jump numbers. It's usually 500 jumps minimum to buy or even demo one from either. skybytch 263 #7 February 14, 2006 Quotejust know its not a swoopers choice. Depends on the person flying it. I've seen people swoop Diablo's pretty far - not as far as a crossbrace but farther than some people can make their Crossfires and Katana's go.
AggieDave 6 #8 February 14, 2006 I've seen Sabre2's swooped farther then folks with Xfires and similar. I've seen a Navigator swooped further then some people with "swoop" canopies can swoop as well. Its not about canopy as much as it is about canopy pilot.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
YISkyDive 0 #9 February 14, 2006 yup, I agree with you both fully on that. I meant more along the lines of 'ease of swoop' I guess? I havent done more than a slow carving 180- so I'm not hitting the powerband at all- but from a Sabre2 same size same approach I had a much much better surf. On my diablo I have had great surfs but it just takes much more focus and work- although that education comes back in a big way on 9cells and others further down the road. riggerrob 627 #10 February 14, 2006 Diablos can turn as fast as elliptical canopies like Stilettos. I put about a hundred jumps on a Diablo 135. It opened and turned like a Stiletto 135, but did not surf as far. If you try opening and turning at the same time (i.e. dipping a shoulder to watch your pilot chute) it becomes WAAAAAY too much fun and you will have to cut it away, the same as a Stiletto in the same situation. The bottom line is that Daiblos are decent elliptical canopies, but can spin so badly at opening time that you will have to cut them away.
Remster 30 #11 February 14, 2006 QuoteDiablos can turn as fast as elliptical canopies like Stilettos. I jumped a 170 Biablo and ST, and the Diablo turns are much faster.Remster
