AggieDave 6 #1 May 22, 2008 Eight years ago today I let go of the strut of a 182 for my very first S/L jump. I, along with my buddy FlyingFerret, were so hung over we kept having to excuse ourselves from the FJC because we were getting sick. The night before we had rented Terminal Velocity and Point Break and partied like vikings to precelebrate our first skydive. Not the smartest thing in the world, but pretty much par for the course in terms of skydivers. My S/L JM was Angie who was sitting between my legs in the 182 on the way to 4k. I was uncomfortable because I had to fart really bad and here was this women who just taught my FJC to me sitting there facing me from the JM spot in the 182. I thought "I'll wait until I'm climbing out to the strut to fart." Needless to say that didn't happen. The pucker factor hit and I couldn't fart. Once we landed some jumpers asked if any of us were 21. We had one in the group that was. He was sent to the corner store with cash from all of us to buy cases of beer for our FIRST skydive. There was no getting out of the beer rules for our first jump! That jump was on a Dolphin rig, a Laser 9 288 with a Sentinel 2000. I don't remember what the reserve was exactly, but I think it might have been either a Laser 7 or a Swift Plus. It was a true static line, no direct bag, no IAD, but it was on a square canopy so I had that going for me. I've made a lot of friends and unfortunately lost a lot of friends in this sport. I met my wife because of this sport. Looking back I wouldn't trade any of the bad to lose any of the good from the past 8 years. As I sit here with my drink I raise it and say "here's to 8 more and 8 more after that!"--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #8 May 22, 2008 I got that canopy on the cheap used. It was just what I needed, with the condition I needed it in (nearly new jumps, but older in age) for a price I could afford without selling off more stuff. I'm going to get a new one next year, that one will be green and black (to match the rest of my gear). --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
