ifall 0 #1 June 13, 2008 Ok, I've done some stupid things before but this is up there!! I have a '99 Expedition that I am currently working on removing the head to helicoil one of the spark plug sockets so I have the battery disconnected. I needed something from it and got into it using the key and set them down in the truck to look for what I needed. Well after I found it I pushed the lock down and closed the door. As it was closing I realized my keys were in there. Too late though. So, I have done this one other time in the last five years but I had the battery connected so I could get something in there and hit the automatic unlock button. Thats not an option this time. Anybody have any ideas on how I can get into it? All my keys were on that ring. House, Jeep, work etc. No, I don't have a spare. When I bought it used the dealer didn't have one. I know I should have made them get one to me but I didn't. Now I regret that. My last option is to break a window. I will if I have to and honestly tell my insurance what happened to it hoping they'll cover it. I don't have a slim jim either but I guess I could get one if I have to. Do they sell those to the public?

mnealtx 0 #4 June 13, 2008 No, they don't sell slim jims to the public...but if you have AAA they will send out a locksmith to do it. I would say to slim jim it yourself..but with todays vehicles and how they cram wiring harnesses everywhere, you might do more harm than good.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. ifall 0 #5 June 14, 2008 I didn't know AAA would do that. I don't have much experience with them but I do have their coverage just in case I need a tow. I'll try them. I did think I might have to call a locksmith but that was my second to last resort. I really wasn't going to break one of my windows.
FlyingJ 0 #6 June 14, 2008 QuoteHave you tried this? No kidding. Seems like the $50 for a locksmith (at least that's what it cost my buddy a couple months ago) seems like a lot less to deal with than an insurance claim. Might be different if they want to charge a lot more. Edit - AAA then! You should have 2 or 3 locksmith calls as part of your coverage. Of course you might have to wait a few hours!Killing threads since 2004.

ifall 0 #11 June 14, 2008 AAA is a lifesaver. Someone is on their way. I only had to use them once for a tow. Hope this means I only have to use them twice. Thanks guys and gals!

BIGUN 1,234 #16 June 14, 2008 Should you go down the path of a locksmith... most of them can make you a spare on the spot if you tell them when you call so they bring the right blank.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. pontiacgtp00 0 #18 June 14, 2008 Just out of curiosity, how many miles is on your expedition? My mother drives a 99 expedition with the triton 5.4 and I've heard quite a few occasions where one of the sparkplugs would blow out of one of the heads. I think her expedition as about 120k miles on it, also has a nice tick when it idles.
ifall 0 #19 June 14, 2008 I have about 240K on mine. It was starting to tick and the tick was getting a bit louder by the day. I was thinking it may be a rod because I threw a rod on my Jeep and it was worrying me. Luckily it blew out when I started it up one morning and I wasn't on the road. Mine's a 5.4 as well and the spark plug that blew out was one closest to the firewall. I may have also cross threaded it possibly though when changing them. It is really hard to get to the spark plug back there.

popsjumper 2 #24 June 14, 2008 Now get a couple of spares made and put one of them in your wallet. It has saved me a couple of times. One side benefit is that if you have a large wad of keys on your ring, you don't have to carry that entire wad around in your pocket. You leave the wad in the car and open the door with the spare in your wallet. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. ifall 0 #25 June 14, 2008 Yeah, thats my plan once I get my engine put back together and start driving it again. I have to get it done through a Ford dealer and its a bit expensive but I need to do it. The key is off the key ring now though in case I do that again. I'll still be kind of screwed if I happen to do that again but at least my "important" keys will not be locked in as well.
