I've never seen an eagle on a carrier

The tail hook on the eagle is used for emergency landings on the runway.

Think of a carrier set up (cables) but stretched across the runway.

Close, but the cables on the runway are not arrestment cables like the boat. (stop you in yards) Our cables run out a good distance (dependant on weight and speed) -- could stretch 1000' or so.

Some F-100D models were fitted with a tailhook, but I'm just really curious - why do you want to know this?

First, thanks everyone for your help!

Second, you are probably going to wish you didn't know.:D Despite my disdain at naming him after aircraft...I needed something rather appropriate for the new kitty who has this strangely odd ability (see pics)

It isn't broken...and he can bend it 90 degrees in any direction, or hold it straight.

:S
