Florida has a new motto

Recommended Posts

"Turn around, don't drown."

I swear they just said that on the official Tropical Storm Fay report. So much for the 'Sunshine state"!

And don't forget the money that was spent on changing the signs for the Bee Line to the Beach Line, just in case the tourists think traveling east is going to bring them to a bee colony.

Maybe, it should be, "Just because you CAN Kite Surf in a Hurricane does not make it a good idea!" :P

I surfed several hurricanes.

My last one, at Boca Raton on the other coast, was a little more than we bargained for.

One wave almost got me. I got out.
The current, water impact, underwater churn, and about 10 other factors will hurt you in a hurry.

Also, all Floridians know that there are alligators that live in the nearby canals, drainage ditches, and golf course water hazards. We know that. (Only tourists try to retrieve balls.)

When hurricanes flood the areas, alligators travel. Water is their highway. They appear everywhere.

Oh, everyone knows it is raining like crazy. The wind is howling. Stuff is blowing past.

Why do the news people go outside with a microphone?
:S

it is just a matter of time before we see a reporter decapitated or impaled by flying debris
Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

About 4 years ago, I saw a palm frond drop a reporter.
More of a nudge, but the darned things are deceptively heavy and hard to manage.

Two years ago, listening to a radio, the reporter says, "The rain is now blowing almost vertically..."
(Muffled, in the background) "Horizontally"
"Oh, yes."
:D

The SE satellite pic shows a very angry looking thing larger than the whole state.

It started out at the bottom left of the state.
Went up and to the right, at an angle across the state.
Then, it turned left and came back across.

Essentially, it went around me. :)
The second pic shows the very bottom edge, close up.

In the center of the pic, on the lower edge of the green of the storm, is me.

The Tampa area is ok. We got some rain, but the winds have been fine. Even driving to work has been good. Right now, my trees aren't even moving.
(Hurricanes are odd creatures.)

It is Deland and the other coast that got pelted.
Two feet of rain is unheard of.

Hopefully, this storm will move a little northward and drop a bunch of rain on Atlanta, where it is needed.
They are very short of water there.

Yep. Deland is 15 miles west of Daytona.

The storm center sat still over Daytona for
about 4 hours today and cut loose.

A tight "eye" of a storm is around 10 miles across and is clear. Outside of that for 100 miles in all directions is a lot of rain.
