So if I want something, I'll just have to get it myself! My mom used to take me shopping and let me pick out some things I wanted for Xmas. It was SO much more fun the first Christmas we just got together and so on. I mean, with kids, it's different. Beyond that, it's so sad to cheapen what the occasion really is about. I'm biased a bit because my father once told me--not too long after I started supporting myself--something along the lines of not buying him shit if I hadn't paid my bills and put money into savings else he'd be greatly disappointed. The amount of presents under my Dad's 13' tree every year is disgusting and it's worse at my husband's parent's. I've been trying to get everyone to cut back for years, but finally the economics of this year is forcing the issue. I think we'll be drawing names and the kids will get the bulk of the gifts. To make the evening still fun (we celebrate on Christmas Eve), we talked about playing a family version of Survivor with silly games. We just want to vote each other out! While others will be singing and going to church, my family will be drinking and scheming. We have a twisted sense of humor.
