councilman24 36 #4 January 8, 2009 I was in Austria in Kufstein in the Tyrol for Fasching (carnival) a few years ago. We didn't know what was going on. The four of us there for work were refered to a restrauant downtown. When we got there they said 'no, no they were booked' Then we mentioned the hotel. They had called ahead and they had a table essentially in the kitchen for us. We shared it with four guys who were getting dressed up in drag for the partying that night. One of their sisters came by to do their make up. They had a home made boom box (car speakers and tape deck on a board) and were going to go from bar to bar doing the Can Can. Later we wen't out and the main part of the restrauant was filled with people in costume dancing on the tables. It was never quite like the Lucern videos. It was small town locals having their party. No tourists at all. Have fun! I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

RkyMtnHigh 0 #6 January 10, 2009 Here's a link with a few pics of the costumes http://fasnacht.ch/?pm_1=21&mid=21. We went to Carnival in Basel at around 2am. A lot of the themes were political in nature. I wouldnt say that the vibe was somber but the "sense of humor" was a bit dark. Its a great experience. You'll enjoy it _________________________________________
