BarbaraKobzik 0 #1 March 21, 2009 Hi - Can anybody recommend a good brush cutter? I don't need a trimmer to make the garden look like a golf course and trimmed like with nail scissors, I really need to go thru brushed (up to about 3 inches diameter) and especially thru dry tall grass and reeds. It's a pretty big area. Any recommendations what to buy or what to stay away from? Thanks a lot, Barbara--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. DavidB 0 #2 March 21, 2009 www.tractorbynet.com Depends on how much you're mowing & what you have for power. I do about 6 acres with a 60 inch light duty John Deere LX5 mower powered by an old John Deere 4400 (36 HP). I cut about 1.25 acres/hour of grass/weeds, but the mower will chop 2 inch. If you're cutting 3" you'd better have at least a 6 foot HD cutter & 50HP.When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. baronn 111 #6 March 22, 2009 You can buy a HD weed wacker and install a blade on it. Make sure and get a pair of handlebars. This is very dangerous shit. A phenomenom known as kickback.happens all the time and it can take your foot off. If you go that way, you still have to dispose of the cut down crap. Best bet, hire a contractor with a brush cutter attachment. A tree service is where you will find this. Mfg. will let you demo but not if you're just a homeowner. After all they're looking to sell a machine. They can come in and mow this down better than you can do yourself. It'll be all mulched up and nice and flat. Better yet, it won't cost you an arm or a leg!
