anyone been and have recommendations of the best places to take a little one (under 2 years old)?

We're possibly going to go in August - not certain yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Seriously, I'd recommend you not go. Actually, no one should go to Disney in August, the weather makes it a miserable experience! Plus, so many families with young kids have that stressed-out, exhausted look by the mid-afternoon. The kids are tired and hot and want to go home but the parents are thinking, "I've spent hundreds of dollars, you're going to have fun and we're going to get out money's worth, damnit!"

We took our daughter at 4 years old and again at 7. The second time, she had no recollection of being there before.

If you're coming to FL anyway, I'd suggest you just have a relaxing vacation with the baby in the pool or at the beach. There are some natural springs in the area where you can bring a picnic or go down a lazy river in a tube. That to me would be so much better than Disney for such a young child and mom and dad would be less stressed too.

If you get a ticket package get the Park-Hopper option and the Water Park. Water park will be great fun and necessary in August. Park Hopper allows you to go to any park at any time. Also, maybe you shouldn't limit yourself to just DW. There's tons of parks in the Orlando area that are fun.

I totally concur w/the previous suggestion of waiting until your kids are older. They really won't remember it.... I waited and took my two this last Xmas, at 9 and 11. It was money well spent!

Having said this, I'd suggest the Magic Kingdom. It's really geared towards the younger crowd (Princesses, the Castle, parades, characters, rides...). I'd also suggest staying IN the park to take advantage of the extended hours (before and after gen public). Fast track passes == DEF Worth it! Think divide and conquer... as early as you can, go stand in line w/the kids and have your hubby go get fast passes.

On a side note, I live near Disney land and i bought Myself, my wife, and my daughter year passes to the park. My Wife takes my daughter there about once a week and she absolutely loves it. Shes about 4 1/2 years old and thats pretty much all she talkes about. Every other thing out of her mouth is about Disneyland. When shes going next, what rides she likes, what autographs shes going to get next. It was definitely worth the money spent, she adores the place.

In the Navy, you can't put your hands in your pockets but I was always told not to put my hands in my pockets by people with their hands in their pockets. Kinda funny huh?

I can not in my wildest imagination think that any 2-year-old would ever actually enjoy any Disney theme park in the middle of August, but especially not one in Florida. Holy crap.

I know people take kids that young all the time, but seriously . . . I'm pretty sure they don't understand a thing that's going on nor do I think that from the point of view inside a stroller 2 feet off the ground they can actually see much of anything other than the legs of 10s of thousands of people.

Further, 90% of them are scared to death of any of the characters they do manage to see. You're just going to have to trust me on this.

I really do think the Disney Parks can be great places to take kids, just not that young.

People from FL wouldn't do that if it was Free Lobster/Beer/and BJ month! Obviously you want to show her something amazing, but at that age, it's really not worth it. Take her to the nearest 6 Flags, get her sugared up on funnel cake, then let her watch Monsters Vs Aliens in 3-D. She'll be just as excited, AND you'll be home with that two grand still in your savings account by bedtime.

Tram? Parking lot? I thought you pay the extra money to stay at the park and get on the monorail.

I am going to FL next week to open a store in Gainesville then taking a week of vacation afterwards. My wife wanted to take our 2 year old girl to Disney and I said no, she would not really remember it. (My earliest memories are from when I was 3) We will wait until she is 6-8 years old, maybe even 8-13.

I have family in Bell, FL (middle of BFE, just off of the Suwannee River that is flooding right now), I'll do my thing in G'ville and hang out with the family then go visit the wifes people in Clearwater. Maybe a day or 2 in Orlando. I'd love to go and jump but I don't know if I'll be able to get away from everyone. BUT the middle of May I have to go to Orlando for a week to work (South OBT by the airport, Rocket Ct) and I WILL try to come to Deland for a day, I'm thinking Thursday (I think the 21st), so it will be raining on that day, everyone beware, I'm headed towards Florida.

I took the kids there last year during the last 2 weeks in August. They were aged 5 and 6. Maybe a year or so older would have been better from a memories point of view. The up side of younger is the 'innocence' factor. At 5 years old Tinkerbell is really Tinkerbell, not some person in a suit. . As for the weather, I found it rather pleasant....but then I live in Africa.

My parents took me to Disney World when I was 3. The only memory I have of it is being beyond terrified on Magic Mountain.

When I was 11 we went to Disney Land. All day I my greatest fear was getting on Magic Mountain. The entire time we were in line for it I kept having flashbacks to being 3 and terrified. I ended up getting on it and loving it in the end.

If you're going to take them that's fine, just don't take them on Magic Mountain until they're a bit older.

We just got back from a week at Disney World and have to say that the Spring Break crowds were a huge pain in the arse. Late August might be just as bad with everyone trying to make a last ditch effort to get to the parks before school picks back up. Bring a cattle prod.

At this age, it's really for your enjoyment. The looks of amazement on your childs face will be something that you'll enjoy and remember. My kids are 2, 7 and 8 and it was so much fun watching them. My older two have been several times each and don't remember a thing from earlier visits. I swear that some of the rides should have seats for the parents that face their children because that's where the action is as opposed to the actual attraction.

The military discount really makes it more bearable. As we walked around and struggled with the crowds, I took comfort in the fact that it only cost us $20 a day to get in the park since my wife was free and the other 3 passes were $100 each for 5 days. We did add the option for the water parks and Disney Quest. Also, a park hopper is an option that costs more so you can only do one park per day. You can't go from one to the other on the same day. DQ ended up being a good thing for later in the day with my older two after the parks were already visited.

All of the parks have good stuff for a two year old. We missed a few things because of long lines; Peter Pan at MK was a 90 minute wait; Character lines were a good 30 minutes and the food lines were always long so pack lunches to save time and money.

We were able to get onto a lot by hitting the parks very early. My wife and I would spllit forces as soon as we got into the park. One of us would take the kids on a ride and the other would go fast pass the next attraction.

PM me if you want to pick my brain some. Also, don't forget that for military, Sea World is free and Universal has a big discount too.

Put me in with the people saying to wait until your kids are older. We took our boys to Disney Land when they were 7 & 9. They had a fantastic time. When they are that old they can walk all day and you don't need to carry them or deal with the hassle of strollers.

That being said, one of their favourite times was when we drove along the Pacific Coast Highway, stopped in some of the State Parks along the way and just went beach exploring....granted, being from the Canadian prairies made the ocean much more fascinating

OK, so tickets are purchased...to the parks or plane? Either way realize Jade is not going to be able to last an entire day there in that heat. Plan something for the afternoon at the hotel so you all can cool off and relax. Sitting in a stroller all day without some "out" time will be tough on her.

If you don't have park tickets look into other options for less expensive parks that may have some of the same features. Realize SHE WILL NOT remember this even with pictures. If you want to go then go for you not her. Even at 4 Meg would not let any of the characters near her and was upset for weeks after.

I would say 4 yrs is the bare minimum age and five is right on the sweet spot for Magic Kingdom. Other Disney World parks are geared up from there (say 7 and above).

I took my two sons at the age of 4&7 respectively, we had to schedule ourselves to allow the 7 yr old to go on rides that the 4 yrs old could not. The second time around it was better, they were 6 and 9 and they both enjoyed it ... and we didn't have to stand guard over the little one because he couldn't get on the rides.

Take them to the tunnel in Orlando :-)
