Jumped Aerodynes "New Main"

Last week I had the opportunity to jump Aerodynes "New Main - 111", as the label stated. All I can say is: This is one fun canopy!

I'm confused. How would the brake setting effect the flare stroke? The brakes are released already, aren't they? Or are we talking about a rear riser flare with the brakes still set?

Ehm, what I meant to say was that you've got to get the toggles down lower to get all the flare out of it. The flare itself is good, the stroke is just longer than I'm used to.

Well, some canopies seem to plane out with the toggles at about sholder level. Other manufactors designs need input at about mid chest to do the same thing. PD canopies tend to have their flare band higher then Icarus canopies for example.

Ah. I see. I think perhaps I was just confused on terminology. I'm used to thinking of the "brake setting" as the distance from the loop that is used to lock the brakes off for deployment, and the "toggle setting" as the distance to the toggle attachment (in both cases, distance from the control line cascade).

No no, it's not a cross braced parachute. Like the PD Katana it is a nine cell elliptical canopy.

yep agree - seen this 'new' canopy being jumped in feb - it looked very Katana like in shape

The canopy you tried, the Mamba 111, or "New main" as it was called then, is one of our team canopies (Norwegian 4-way team, Arcteryx). My teammate lengthened the steering lines only a few days before you tried it. This will probably explain why you felt the the flare range was a bit "low". I have several hundred jumps on the canopy and the flare power of this canopy is excellent.

Was this the Vision (which I found very similar to a Crossfire2) or
the _other_ new canopy which I had a chance to jump at Rantool but ran out of time

The canopy Jaap jumped was not a Vision. He jumped the Mamba 111 ("New main" 111). Aerodyne is working on a new and revised version of the Vision (called R&D 182 for the time beeing). The Mamba is a much quicker canopy than the Vision.

Yes it is. Never had a problem with it and it just got better with more speed. Thanks for the opportunity to try it. It was real fun .
