Landing in the Moon

I was watching on T.V. several programs devoted to the anniversary of Man landing on the Moon forty years ago.

As POP I relate to the news and was happy to live again that feeling of excitement and accomplishment, but quickly enough, I started wondering what would that mean for my fellow skydivers, most of which are under 40 years old age.

And also, it got me thinking about the fact that most of my friends are way younger than myself, and that I can relate easier with young people than with people my age. Is that a sign of immaturity? Is this shared by other skydivers? Would this mean that we mentally age less that those non-skydivers?

Any thoughts?

I know what you mean, most of my friends are younger...it's a tough bunch to hang with cuz they're all still pretty competitive, look good, and have high hormone levels which gives them the edge in many ways physically- I like to think I have the experience and wisdom though....... At some point in life I think you make the transition to hanging with people your own age or older just because we have less to prove all the time, have more knowledge about the world, are more even tempered, play fewer head games and are not so concerned about looks all the time.

This civilization is too focused on youth these days...pretty soon we will be ruled by toddlers.

I would think its more along the fact that the older skydivers haven't lost their love of life and adventure. Young people, although sometimes crazy due to thier inexperience and belief they are invinsible, also seem to simply be more adventurous and want to experience more in life. This is really what skydiving seems to be about for most of us. We simply want to experience life to its fullest! Most people, as they get older simply become to serious about life and, as a result, never truely experience life and the amazing wonders it has to offer. I think this is the link, not maturity levels.

You nailed the feeling! But I am really amazed that I can talk to them as peers, and believe that they don't think of me as an old fart....I might be wrong though!

I think you got the skydiver spirit part right, and that makes no difference how old you are really.

If you knew me you would see that I am getting LESS serious about life, the bills ,the taxes, and what other people think along with the rest of the minutia- and I was never that serious to begin with... and enjoying life more as a result...
Getting older is about letting go I think.....just like in the movie The Marix....or that plane strut for the first time.

little by little you let go of more and more until that last day you are alive, and watch the world fade to black, with no regrets, no remorse, and your last memories of some good times and a life well lived with a few nice people

He, he, he...that sounds just right! Although it sort of starts feeling like we are very age conscious.....when we really couldn't care less. Anyway, I think that jumping makes all of us brothers, except for those godamm sons of bitches that occasionally fall....old or young.

I know the pressure is tough,but you fight it by being confident because thats all the pressure is really, based on reproductive function...it's a joke

I know women who would never make it in a fashion mag but they are confident, date intelligent men who are nice instead of trendy- and because of their confidence in themselves they are irresistibly HOT-and couples like that need no Viagra or breast implants to be happy.

We are not supposed to be anything but ourselves..... anyway that's the only contract I signed when I was a baby.
