I'm jealous of the jetboil... I eye it every time I'm at REI, but I just can't justify the cost - my pocket stove works so well.

After hearing about Skybytch and Mary talk about the jetboil, i found one on steepandcheap for like $85 that came with the coffee press, heaven i tell ya!B|

We are taking a friend of mine and her boys out camping over the summer. I sat down and created a list of all the camping gear Steve & I have:

6 man tent
3 man tent
2, 2man tents
large tarps
Rubber mallet
3 queen size air mattress
1 twin air mattress
2 Thermarest pads
2 -0’ sleeping bags
2 old cheapo sleeping bags
2 coleman stoves
1 pocket stove
Cooking pots / pans
5 gallon collapsible water container
2 large coolers
1 medium cooler
2 small coolers
4, two way radios
2 headlamps
Plenty of flashlights
etc.
etc....

And I want to go buy a shade tent....:)

I THINK I HAVE A PROBLEM... Is there a support group for something like this.

What's your question? I'm a backcountry camper but not a snob. I have fun car camping which is what most people mean by camping. In that respect, a bunch of gear is fun because you're bringing the fun barbecue and tailgate stuff to a campsite. With back-country it's the opposite, the less gear the better. So, if you're doing something in between then there's a mix.

Nah, they eat up the power that the furnace needs on those cold nights.

:P:P:P
What do you need a furnace for, dont you have 2 boxers for warmth:P:ph34r:

Queen size air mattress
Several sleeping bags & ice chests
3-man tent
Tent Majal (I think it was advertised as an 8-man + front porch room)
2008 Prowler 260FQS, with HDTV, surround sound, memory foam topped queen bed, and even a small wine cellar (climate controlled)
Yamaha EF2400is
Two outdoor carpets, surrounded by garden edging, for a 6'x18' "front lawn"

Home away from home should be homey. :P:D

And what do you do for restroom and bathing?

I'm a bit too tall to take a bath in the bathtub, but Muttley might be able to, and I can stand up straight in the shower. The 30 gallon black tank will last much longer than the food will, so that's never a problem. :P

If you think the Jetboil is heaven, check out my newest toy. http://www.rei.com/product/767564 The best part is that I didn't pay full price for it. It was on sale a few weeks ago for alot less.

I'm a backpacker, so I keep my load as light as possible. Every time I'm back from a trip, I think of another way to cut more of the load. I just did a 30 mile trip last weekend in the Rawah Wilderness and when I started out my pack weight was about 30 pounds :)

Jetboils are overrated. Im a SERE specialist (Air Force Survival instrustor) ihave 2 jetboils and all the gagdets to go with it, but i never go anywhere without my MSR Reactor. It;s a little bit more expensive than a jetboil, but it boils faster than a jetboil, Especially @ cold temps and hight altitudes. i had to use it to keep some students from going hypothermic , while my back up jetboil was still trying to get warm.

Glad I saw this. My MSR Pocket Rocket has been an unbeatable light gear stove and any time I've needed more power I can make a fire. I found that I'd hit the wall with it last winter trying to use it in 10 F and now I'm looking for something that can really handle the cold.

Yep, mucho fun!! Im definately a novice and I spent quite a bit of time talking to some of the folks there about sizing, fit, load distribution etc. for the backpack. Got some good info about a lot of other stuff too. Did the membership thing and left quite happy:)

Went down to the Northridge REI for thier sale yesterday, left with a new Kelty backpack, tent, a pot and pan set and other various crap:)

No reason to have pots and pans in the backcounty. That's some weight you'll want to get rid of fast.

Welcome to the great outdoors.
