I don't know about the Army but, the jump to E-7 is the biggest step from "worker" to "manager" there is in the Navy. We (~used to) go so far as to completely change the uniform one wears when promoted to "Chief" in order to help separate those selected from the junior enlisted ranks. I made Chief in 12, LDO (Mustang) in 14. What a ride "Always do right.
