Turn On The TV RIGHT NOW . . .

It looks like a giant mushroom (assuming the link LisaH posted is the same thing you're watching).

They just said the boy may have fallen out right after take off, according to a sibling who watched the whole thing. So at this point they do not know if he is inside. Wouldn't you think that without 50lbs, the balloon would not stop until it got to 30-50k feet? I think it is at 7-10k right now.
Regardless, scary

if the kid is still inside it is anything BUT funny.....

TV shot of the event must be taken from a moving aircraft,,, using zoom lens video.. cause it makes it appear that the balloon is moving realllll fast...
when the winds are being reported as "light"..

Tough situation, maybe they can snag it with a helicopter and tether...

maybe a Person, at the end of the tether with some type of grappling device.. which can be secured to the balloon, then compromise the envelope by knife.. to bleed off the helium...
allowing the deflating balloon to be "held" by the tether....
lower the whole mess , carefully to the ground....
would rather see some sorta controlled descent,,,, instead of just letting it , "come to the ground" on it's own...gravity can be nasty..... if you can't control it...

yikes.....
