The Prisoner 2009

Recommended Posts

I have just watched the first 2 hours of it on AMC. I remember watching the original back in the 1960's and I liked it. The new one although different than the original, is actually quite well done. I am looking forward to the next few episodes to see where they take it.

Rats! I forgot about it. Is it worth picking up mid stream or should I just write it off?
That's the trouble with not watching much TV, I miss things that I think would have been cool to see.[:/]

There is a replay of yesterday's before the airing of today's. If you hurry, you should be able to set your recorder to catch both.

I'm thinking I'll DVR the one tonight and tomorrow then wait for the 1st one to air again so I can watch that first. Hate that I missed the first one too. Stupid work.

"Rats," "I can't stand it!" hehe
I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows*

What were the ghost-like images of two tall skyscrapers that appeared over the desert?
Did they look like the former World Trade Center towers in New York City to anyone besides me?
Were they supposed to?
And if so, was that intended to symbolize something?

Tonights episode was pretty good IMO. The whole mystery/flashback thing is reminiscent of LOST, although the over all gist of the village reminds me of Socialism and the paranoia found in those societies. However the show is very well done for a TV series.

So far this seems to be focusing more on Two using mind games to convince Six he simply has amnesia.

This differs greatly from the original series where they both knew it was a separate society set up to separate a person who "knew to much" from circulating in normal society. Of course the ambiguity in the original series was that Six didn't know who had set up The Villiage so he didn't know if he was in the midst of good guys or bad guys; was he being held by the good guys because he knew too much to resign or has he been captured by the bad guys?

I'm really curious to see how this turns out. If they continue with the amnesia aspect to break him and how that would work anyway.

BTW, the idea of setting up a separate colony of people that "knew too much" is based on a colony of people the British government set up for spies in retirement; or so I've read in interviews with McGoohan.

Since Six is from NYC, I think it's pretty safe to assume they are representations of the WTC. I think it's also safe to assume he was working on a post 9/11 analysis of the WTC and resigned because he found an inconsistency somewhere. Some of the dialog in the first episode certainly hints at it.

I'd assume they're there to screw with Six's head.

I think the bigger question is; what's up with 313's duck lips?

What is it about this premise that makes it so difficult to come up with a satisfying ending?

I didn't hate it and it was in all likelihood a set up for a further continuation of the series if it could be picked up and financed, but it wasn't satisfying just as the end of a mini-series.

Alright, I am up to episode 5.
I need to know, am I meant to understand what is going on yet?
Am I meant to have the hundreds of questions I have?

I am not reading this thread, i jus want to know should i have so many questions? I am Enrique by this show and never saw the original but right now, i have no clue what is going on.

WHY is the mother always asleep? I know why but why does he make her sleep?

This is one fucked up show. I am so lost. I feel like the past 3 episodes I am only watching cause i want to know what the hell is going on. I dont know if i enjoy the show as i just want to know the ending the entire time.

We could answer your questions, but then you would know too much,
and probably wake up to find yourself in The Village.

Yes, very unsatisfying. I guess my "willing suspension of didbelief" just didn't kick in. How was this alternate reality achived? Was it all in the mind of 2s wife? If so, how were the other real people inserted into this world? A "Matrix" like thing is more believable unless there is some kind of string theory / alternate universe portal and that was never touched on. I watched it, it was well done, but I didn't get the point. Some kind of "Big Brother" thing at Suncore (or was it Sumcor?) The taxi / limo driver, in two seperate realities at the same time. I guess it was over my head but I did enjoy the performances and the way it was done.

I am 100% lost.

Could anyone please give me a run down on what the show was about, where was he, who was he, and what the ending meant. I just have no clue.
