i could do 4 years in vegas. meg has no desire to go there though. i think it would be fun. i could summer in washington and bring back lots of tuna, and maybe even get up there for a week in the spring to stock up on halibut. good times.

We need to convince her somehow! Even nearby would be cool...sucks always living on the other side of the country from you.

it would be fun. its gets fucking hot there though. a/c would be working it's ass off. how's electric rates?

if we did get out there, we would get the bonus of the in-laws. with all her children, grand children, and casinos in one spot there is no force on earth that would keep our mother-in-law from moving out there.

I grew up in Fl. Didn't have a/c until I was 16.
The elem school didn't, but the buildings were wood-frame
and elevated with a 3 ft air flow underneath.

The high school didn't have a/c until after I left.
The buildings were concrete block and close.
No airflow... and built on a filled-in pond.
The halls flooded after a good rain. (heat with a bonus of humidity from the standing water) :D:D

Enjoy the cool weather. In August, you won't be able to
sleep without a/c or a good fan. You'll walk out at 8am and it will already be 90 deg. Sweating in 5 minutes.

(I joined the Y so I can swim after work)

i went to boot camp in orlando in july and august. half my company was female so at night the guys had to go to another company's compartment to sleep while that's company's women came to our compartment. fucking asshole company commanders where we slept didn't believe in having the a/c on. that sucked.

i had originally planned on being in upstate new york for most of august, but the school board here decided to start school on august 5th.

We're kinda bummed here because the temperature is perfect for just opening windows but the pollen count is so insane this year we really can't. My poor wife has been having to take benadryl every evening to get any rest. On the plus side, I've noticed that when she's doped up, she stays on her side of the bed

i feel horrible for anyone with allergies. we have a green haze on everything here. just a day after washing my truck it was green again. there was a day a couple weeks ago where i could actually see the pollen haze in the air.

You think that shit from the Souther White Pines is bad.... I remember seeing GREEN CLOUDS of that crap from the Douglas Fir and Ponderrosa Pine mixed forest up in the mountains in Eastern WA. I am not allergic but that stuff would get in your eyes and tear you up really bad trying to flush it out of your eyes.

Electricity hasn't been bad so far. From what I understand the heat is so dry that usually a good breeze is enough to keep it tolerable. We'll see how that works this summer...

Mom has already made it abundantly clear she would be here in a heartbeat if we were both in this area!

I was going to suggest the same thing. I've lived in Florida and now on the Texas coast. I have a small window unit that I install in my bedroom window during the summer. My main A/C gets set somewhere between 80 and 85 just to help keep the mold at bay and the window unit gets run for a few hours to cool down the bedroom and then turned off each night.

I am incapable of sleeping well when I'm hot and sweaty, but hell if I'm going to keep the whole apartment at 72 degrees! I'd be paying over $300 a month to do that.

We have a huge house that since the kids moved out goes mostly unoccupied, except for the bedroom and office.

I use window a/c and a little floor heater for those rooms and our energy bill went down a bit over 70% !
