I learned in grade school that the longest word is 'smiles' because there is a mile between the first and last letter.

I later learned that a league is 3.45233834 miles, so 'beleaguered' is more than 3 times longer that 'smiles'
For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

I even have less of a life it seems, I looked up it's origin..:D
Coined by Everett K Smith, President of the National Puzzlers’ League, at their convention in 1935, from Ancient Greek πνεύμων (pneumōn), “‘lung’”) + Latin ultra (“‘beyond’”) + English microscopic + silico- + volcano + Ancient Greek κόνις (konis), “‘dust’”) + English -osis.

Well, that might not work, since there aren't a lot of football jerseys featuring diseases. However, you could always have the Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg Lions

Oh yeah, and just for you Turtle... The name titin is derived from the Greek Titan (a giant deity, anything of great size). :D

What about antidisestablishmentarianism? That's a word a school teacher in grade school made us memorize. I don't know why.
"For you see, an airplane is an airplane. A landing area is a landing area. But a dropzone... a dropzone is the people."
