FlyingJ 0 #6 December 24, 2004 Mmm...usually Glenlivet for me, but sometimes either Oban or the 12 yr Macallan.Killing threads since 2004.
Dumpster 0 #7 December 24, 2004 It's a real challenge drinking it, you know being a little older and having to add a slpash of water since it's cask-strength, but I think I can handle - (Pardon me while I take another sip-) Easy Does It
Canuck 0 #8 December 24, 2004 Good God man, whatever you do DO NOT add water to it. Don't even put ice in it! Canuck

shropshire 0 #10 December 24, 2004 Sorry, but the only thing that should be added to a single malt (and it the law O.K!) - is another splash from the same bottle! Enjoy (.)Y(.) Dumpster 0 #11 December 24, 2004 I beg to differ when it comes to cask-strength scotches - It is not filtered or anything when bottled - The flavor is way overpowering to the point of being repellant. Even Macallan themselves reccomend it, inspite being 17 years old. Easy Does It
FIREFLYR 0 #12 December 24, 2004 MMM, Some favorites of mine are: Balvenie 12yr $35 at Bev Mo. Dumpster 0 #13 December 24, 2004 Glenlivet is my first single-malt love! It's a great scotch and has is really pretty affordable as far scotches go. 16 year old is going to be very pleasant, too. Around here I can find it for about 20 -25 bucks a bottle, sometimes even less. Easy Does It

Dumpster 0 #15 December 24, 2004 Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Glen Ord are all readily availabe around here and usually around 20-35 a bottle. One scotch I had whileTDY to France was William&Lawson. I honestly can't recall if it was a single or not. I haven't seen it here in the states at all. Easy Does It

Dumpster 0 #18 December 24, 2004 Excellant website Ian! Thanks very much for sharing it! I'm fortunate enough that our water is from a well, and it is run through a softener then an activated charcoal filter. It's free from the water-treatment chemicals found in normal city water. I know few folks who use distilled water, either for diluting of for making icecubes with. I enjoy ice-cold scotch sometimes, I don't know if it's "kosher" but I find the difference in the taste enjoyable. Easy Does It

IanHarrop 37 #21 December 24, 2004 One of my favourites: Bruichladdich 15 year old - The 17 year is great too but personally I like the 15 year old better. Read what the experts have to say: The 15 year old: http://www.bruichladdich.com/tasting_reviews_the_fifteen_bottling(1).htm The 17 year old: http://www.bruichladdich.com/tasting_reviews_the_xvii_bottling(1).htm"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
3ringheathen 0 #22 December 25, 2004 QuoteGood God man, whatever you do DO NOT add water to it. Don't even put ice in it! Not necessarily, especially with a cask strength bottle. It's really about what you enjoy. I like my Scotch straight, with a touch of water, or sometimes with one ice cube. You can get very different, but equally good sensations from playing with that. I'm a big fan of Glenmorangie 18, McCallan 12, and Highland Park to name a few. Occasionally I like to thrash my pallet with some Talisker or Laphroaig. Who would have guessed I could like something that reminds me of bandaids and burnt plastic? Unfortunately, I probably have to pay a lot more for them than most of you guys do. ematteo 0 #25 December 25, 2004 Laphroaig 15 is way more approachable than their 10 year. That and Lagavulin 16 are my two favorite Islas. Also, Springbank makes a darn good, albeit expensive, Highland.
