For those unfamiliar with the Navy Enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7), there is no greater leap in military leadership roles and responsibilities than that of being promoted from Petty Officer 1st Class to Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. This is truly a momentous occasion and I congratulate you Nanook on your selection.

Good luck to you over the course of the next month while you undergo a rite of passage that, although somewhat different than what I went through many years ago, will challenge you to extremes. Remember, every lesson has a purpose that you may or may not understand at the time, but will make sense one day soon.
