Plane stalled because of a crocodile!!! (20 dead)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

You know the plane crash in Democratic Republic of Congo last August that killed 20?

It was now reported this was because the airplane stalled because of a smuggled crocodile. It escaped, and panicked passengers ran towards the cabin. The plane stalled, and the plane crashed.

----

This is also applicable to skydiving -- the moral of the story is be careful of stalling the plane during skydiving -- respect those line markers on Skyvan's and don't move around too much ESPECIALLY during takeoffs and landings. (Seatbuilts rule helps!)

Any plane can stall, and not all of them have a line inside the fuselage with info indicating how many should not be past it on exit.

It escaped, and panicked passengers ran towards the rear of the cabin.

fixed it for you. If they ran towards the front, the center of gravity would shifted towards the front of the plane decreasing the likelihood of a stall.
For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

That's not always the case for all planes, though the result may be a "dive" rather than a "stall".

The sources I've read says the passengers ran towards the COCKPIT:

Maybe perhaps the plane didn't quite stall, but went into a sudden dive during a low approach. Shifting load towards cockpit can do that, just like pulling down on your front risers at flare time can be dangerous, especially on highly loaded wings. (wham)

Regardless, the plane got unbalanced -- sudden center of gravity shift.

i don't know if this is entirely true , canard type airplanes were designed to be unable to stall at least theoretically. and fly by wire type aircraft have stall and stall entry programmed out !

This just cries out for a movie-of-the-week: "Crocodiles on a Plane"...
Hmmm....
Doesn't have quite the same ring to it.[:/]

I read the link. The news report doesn't use the word "stalled". It says the airplane was "thrown off balance" during approach to the airport when everyone ran forward. That makes perfectly good sense.

As my grandmother used to say, "Them crocodiles is good with sweet potatoes."

I thought that too, before I saw your post! :D

Dumbasses abound.....!! Whether a forward or aft CG!

Hey, don't knock aft CG.
That was the basis for one of my most vivid skydiving memories.:S:D.

What, you don't like VMC roll-overs in King Airs when the DZO decides to let the tandems out early on their own pass, he throttles the left engine back, everyone makes room for them in the back...

That was the most exciting plane ride I had at that DZ.
