Point Break

My generation of jumpers had the movie "Gypsy Moths" (and maybe to a greater extent, the film "Proof.")

The next generation had "Point Break."

And the present generation has "Drop Zone" and "Cutaway."

Anyone notice that in cinematic terms the decline in skydiving movie quality pretty much mirrors the sport itself, LOL . . .

NickD :)

How could you be so irresponsible to leave out Fandango??? The ground school for that movie by far is the best part of the entire flick B|

Never seen Point Break. Or any of the other skydiving movies commonly mentioned here. I have seen fandango, once a long time ago but don't even really remember the skydiving parts.

I'll have to fix that one of these days.

They are all avaliable threw net flicks, or for sale on ebay on DVD!

Sex with sith is like sex with a stripper. A lot of flashing lights and waving of glowing sabers, but in the end you end up with something dark and wrinkely.

"Proof" is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wlqDzkIDPU

It originally started out as student film at the USC film school.

Here's the second part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQjb7BwlwDQ&feature=related

And the third: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3NylihMsno

I never saw Fandango at the movies, because, I don't know, back then skydivers never went to the movies.

Wait, I take that back, between 1975 and about 1998 I did go to one movie, it was called "Perfect Storm" and I fell asleep in the middle of it. I still don't know what happened to those guys in the boat . . .

And FreeFlyer2100, I'm ready to accept your apology for what you thought was my oversight, but what was really your undersight, LOL!

my cousin is an avid golfer. there are lots of movies about golf. fun, enjoyable to watch, but unrealistic. his comment, "it's just a movie. i'm watching it for entertainment."

I find that when I watch movies that are about any subject that I have more than average experience with, they usually come across as unrealistic. But yeah, they're just movies, and often entertaining anyway.

The achievement of Point Break isn't that it overcame unrealistic skydiving and surfing scenes to be an enjoyable film - it's that it overcame terrible dialogue and non-existant acting to be an enjoyable film!:P

Terrible dialogue?? 99 percent of my exit sayings on base jumps are from that movie.

"Are we going to jump or jerk off?" (then jump)
"100 percent pure adrenaline!"
"little hand says it's time to rock and roll!" (personal fav)

I've seen it a hundred times. It's on now. I still love it. Hokey as it is.

I love it, too, though I have only seen it (in its entirety) a couple times.

I miss Patrick. :(

I am not a one to love a celeb or go bananas when I see one (and I have seen more than a few), but I admit Swazye always brings a smile to my face.

Is that because he'd never let anybody put Baby in the corner?

I like 'em all.:)

I know it is crazy, but I OWN them all! When I was involved with the WFFC, I knew there would be bad weather days, so Streaker and I went out and found all of the movies that may appeal, Gypsy, Fandango, Cutaway, Point Break the list goes on. I still watch them and when they are on tv, I watch them again. On New Years Day, we sit around in our 'jamies and watch video from old WFFC's. We just can't get enough of this!

Skydiving movies are every bit as realistic as any biker movie!;)

We need a skydiving "Sons of Anarchy" type series!

OOOOooo! the AirBoss and I have been talking about that very thing!

Call it "Packing with the Stars"
