How much of a turn off is it?

No, I've read plenty of them. I wanted to avoid a page and a half about how ugly and awkward engineers (except Shah himself) are.

:)Well what can I say?
I'm sexy! :P

There's your problem. If you don't think you're sexy, how can you expect somebody else to?

WELL....if you put it that way...then yes...yes I am DEAD SEXY! :)
Now can we get back on topic.
This is actually a rather serious argument / talk which I've had with friends and other and would like an outside thought on the issue.

The kid thing? Yes you're absolutely right. It's a huge issue. I know lots of women that wouldn't even go on one date with a guy if he didnt want kids. I know some that are wishy washy on the subject. And I know a select few that do not want kids under any circumstance. I even know some that dont even want to get married let alone have kids:o

But you're doing nobody a favor by lying. Eventually, you'll have to fess up that you dont want kids and the relationship will end if its that important to her. Why waste the time in the first place?

I have a shitty memory so I can't recall if I've already asked you about this and I'm being absolutely 100% serious here. Have you considered just fucking prostitutes? Think about it. In the long run it'll be cheaper, you'll be better off mentally since, by judging these posts, you don't actually enjoy dating and dealing with women. And you'll always get to fuck tight, hot, young, sexy women without having to deal with their BS. Prostitution is the most honest form of sexual exchange there is.

Just look at these chicks : http://www.montrealgirlsonfire.ca/OurGirls.aspx (obviously NSFW).

Think about how many of those women you could've fucked with the money you wasted on your divorce. You think you can pull those kind of women without whipping out your wallet? Might as well as be honest about the whole process.

If the woman wants to have kids, then it's probably a huge turn-off. If she doesn't, it's probably a turn-on.

If it's an important criteria for her to decide if she even wants to embark on a dating relationship with you (however casual it might be at first) she'll ask early so she doesn't feel like she's wasting her time continuing to date you. Flip side is, she might be asking you early because she doesn't want kids herself and wants to see if you're simpatico.

Either way, be true to yourself. Lying's just a weak sauce move. No one ever "has to lie" - if you believe that, maybe you shouldn't be dating at all. [:/]

BTW everyone who's saying you can't lie is right. You can go on a date with a woman who wants kids as long as you both know it's not going anywhere -- she might also want to just have fun for an evening. Of course, if her age is comparable to yours and she is interested in kids, she probably doesn't want to waste her time -- that old biological clock is ticking.

Start going to CrossKeys; it's a big DZ. Look first, then start listening (listening to people makes them feel smart -- that's a good thing -- also you get to know them better). After you have an idea of what people are like, hang out with them, go drinking with them for an evening. Takes time, but so do most things that are worth it.

Or you can import someone from the Phillippines. Many are college graduates. I have both a friend and a relative in very happy long-term marriages with Filipinas. In their case, both have children, but that's what they wanted (and both quite late in life, too).

I know some that are wishy washy on the subject. And I know a select few that do not want kids under any circumstance.

I'm one of those who was somewhere in the wishy washy range when I started dating my current boyfriend almost 6 years ago. At the time I was 34 - I genuinely wasn't sure back then; I'd never felt the calling to have children so strongly that it trumped all other things in my life (including being in a fulfilling relationship). I was always one of those who thought "Well, maybe if the time/situation is right, but maybe not."

However, I knew before my boyfriend and I had even expressed mutual interest that he absolutely, 100%, non-negotiable didn't want to have kids - it had come up in conversation early in the phase of getting to know each other as friends. I was happy to have that piece of data as we started dating and continued dating. We started out on a foundation of honesty and that hasn't changed. Had I been someone who really, really, really wanted kids, we just would not have been a good match and would have had to deal with that fact and gone our separate ways. Fortunately, there was room for alignment on that point in our case; in other cases, there's not really any gray area.

As time has gone on, I've (obviously) come to value the relationship, as I've been in it happily for nearly 6 years. I've also come to be totally cool with the fact that kids aren't going to be a part of that relationship. I really enjoy the things we're able to do and the freedom we're able to have, and am also cool that kids won't be a part of that. Besides, even if I did want them, now that I'm 40, the prospect of having kids becomes less likely and less desirable to me (though I know that there are a lot of ways that I could become a parent even at my age, the idea of embarking on that journey now isn't appealing to me).

Easy to say difficult to implament Sapphire .
My coming out and point blank saying "Yes I like them, they are good fun, but I honestly don't wish to ever have kids."
Brings about a few responces.
1) Oh you will change your mind when you meet the right person...there will be no other date.
2) *angry* Why!...there will be no other date and a good dinner will have gone badly.
3) OH?....I have now come across as someone who is selfish and unable to or unwilling to share his life with anyone, there will be no other date and a good dinner will have gone badly.

Even a girl who does not wish to have kids appears to wish to hear that the guy, me, has a heart and is a caring individual and as such an indicator of this is may wish to have kids.

I'm not defending my position or my response of saying "at the moment I do not know" what I am looking for is a gut check and thus an indictor of how the future may possibly look.

FYI
At the moment I would say I have dated about 20 odd girls since last January. Of which only 1 was not interested at all in having kids.

If this IS your true gut response then that is the one you should go with. If they don't wish to continue on for another date so be it. Casually dating is one thing - they may want to see you occasionally just to pass the time knowing you're not the 'one' for them, etc. But to lie - well, it's a waste of time for everyone.

Not wanting to have kids of your own doesn't make you a bad person and those who judge you as such well, would you want to continue on with them anyway?

I still don't see how responding any differently to the question other than truthfully works out well for you. Obviously your selection will be reduced in the life partner department, but you already have it reduced significantly in other areas you're not willing to budge on, so why do you feel the need to on this?

I'll stick with my original answer of being honest when asked and allow the other person to make a fully informed decision.

Proper escorts get regularly tested and refuse to have unprotected sex, I'm not talking about 5$ crackwhores here.

I'd be a lot more worried about some random chick picked up from a bar then a pro. 60% of sexually active women have herpes and 50% have HPV. If you're going to get STD's, you're most likely going to get them from the girl next door.

Touche sir! You are absolutely right. It probably is more risky with the girl next door. Though now I wonder about your expertise in the prostitute arena....;)

You are way better off using (legal) prostitutes than doing the Russian roulette thing of meeting women in bars. Where prostitution is legal here in the US, there is almost zero instances of STD's because

1) regular checkups are mandatory
2) condom usage is mandatory
3) there are legal (and employment) consequences for infecting someone else.

You admit to disrespecting women so much that you'll just flat out lie to them to serve your own selfish needs, and yet you still think you should be let back into the Women's Forum. :|

I’m not sure if shah disrespecting women is any worse than the disrespect you show them by protecting the poor defenseless ladies from shah. The women in that forum and our sport are pretty strong. Remember “All are free to post” there. You apparently don’t care for shah and that is okay but I believe it clouds you judgment.

And yes I think he should be honest and not lie. It is selfish.
