1969912 0 #1 May 14, 2011 NWS is predicting severe thunderstorms with "large hail" here. Wiki says that the NWS defines large hail as 1" or more in diameter. Anyone know about how big hail balls have to be to dent a car and/or break windshields? oldwomanc6 42 #2 May 14, 2011 Half that big makes car dealers scurrying for cover. Dent Dent Dent. It takes a bit (a lot) more to break a windshield, but the car is ripply, and body work is much more expensive than replacing the windshield. put the car you care about the most inside the garage tonight lisa lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
1969912 0 #3 May 15, 2011 Wonderful. The 912 gets the garage. Best I can do with the Hyundai is park it under some trees. So far the cells have been passing ~20 miles West of here. Thanks. 1969912 0 #7 May 15, 2011 Originally Irish Green. Now it's a 1988 color called Chiffon White. The areas of precip are moving West of here and just nudging us with dark clouds. Kind of interesting to watch it on Weather Underground. 1969912 0 #9 May 15, 2011 Quote Quote Kind of interesting to watch it on Weather Underground. Clicky Nice. Turns out we haven't had even a drop of rain. The storms formed ~100mi SE of here and nailed my parents in Kennewick WA. No hail - just t-storms. I called my dad to tell him a cell would hit within minutes and he told me the rain just started moving sideways. They are now predicting just plain old thunderstorms here tonight. BillyVance 34 #10 May 16, 2011 Ask Cheach about her experience with hail last year. I think they were the size of baseballs or so. Totalled her cars and punched holes in her roof.
