You buying a Grady-White?

Really nice boat, I missed a chance to buy a 27' GW with three Evinrude 250HP's on it,

It was like brand new, this was at the .com bubble burst and the owner was selling everything he had.

I should have bought that and ditched the GF.[:/]

This is what I am towing around;)

Nice boat Jeanne.

I got it this spring... and it still needs the radar and some other stuff installed. I was stuck in crappy weather hell this year trying to get it ready to go sammin killin. I wanted to make sure ALL of the old bottom paint was removed.... down to the gellcoat so I could seal it with gluvit epoxy and then put on really good anti fouling paint. The problem was... I need warm weather.. like 75 degrees for that VERY expensive epoxy stuff ( about $800 dollars worth on the bottom) to set up properly. I live in the foothills of the mountains and I think that before Aug 1 we had about 5 days above 70 degrees F.

After the fishing season.. all the rest of the hull will get the old paint removed... a couple places where someone tried to patch some minor dings with the wrong stuff and then a new coat of gel coat applied.

I took the boat across the scales on the way to the coast.. the front axle of the truck was 4000 lbs, rear axle 4500 lbs and the trailer and boat on the 3 axles.. 8200 lbs. I could still tow it at freeway speeds and downshit to 5th gear going up the hills to maintain speed;)

Very nice boat.

8200lbs is pretty light for a boat that size and the trailer too, good work.

Some boats are excessively heavy.

What I like about the GW is that the gull is manufactured using some of the best hull materials and techniques available.

I like this one a lot http://www.gradywhite.com/306/

But it is not like I can afford it...[:/]

I keep only the stuff I need for fishing on it... and it was the 2nd year Chris Craft was building the fiberlass Commander. They used hand layed woven roving with the good resins before the Arab oil embargo forced the change in resin formulation. That change in 1975 caused so many boats to suffer from blisters and water intrusion/delamination, especially those with the chop gun construction that so many manufacturers went to. That stuff is heavy... and with the extra water load in the layers.. really heavy.

It was repowered with a Mercruiser 5.7 liter... but when that one gets tired... I am thinkin repower with a Cummins:)

Just to let you know, I used to do marine electronics in a former life. I'm even FCC licensed to install SSB radios. I'm always happy to do free work for those who take me out fishing (I still like to pay my share of gas, bait, and beer. The work is just a thank you for the invite.)

Funny, I tried to do some fiberglass work at the beginning of this summer and couldn't because its way too hot here. I have to wait until the fall to do anything.

How did this end up being a boat thread? :P

Someone let 'Zon into the thread.

This is one of the boats I would love to have

http://www.gradywhite.com/305/

I could also go for this one

http://www.rangertugs.com/R-29

They are way too expensive though

The second one... LOTS more practical with our weather:P

The first one... you would need to add 7 grand worth of camper top canvas to the back to survive mo0st of the year here:ph34r:

Don't you need a permit for trailering that rig? Looks pretty wide. And launching...that's gotta be a process.

We're starting to outgrow the 23' Concept and looking to get something bigger that handles Erie better.

Yup... I get an oversize permit when I need to move it from one place to another. And notice the hoist....;) The boat has a 10 foot beam on the gunnel so I make sure to have all the right paperwork( anything over 8'6" requires a permit).

I do the ramps in some places but I like my King 3 axle saltwater galvanized trailer so much... I will use the hoist when I can to keep the bearings and everything else out of the salt ( hint... there is usually no line at the hoist that costs $10 while the rather full long line at the launch ramp costs $5 and can be ah hour wait or more during samming killin time )

I only have a 14' deep V mirrocraft and a Zodiac FC470 right now though.

If I move somewhere else I may get a larger boat.

The Chain is nothing more than a swamp.

I have 6 big boats.... over 20'... but I grew up in a boatyard working on boats during the summers for my grandfather... earning my keep;)

I love boats.. they give me all the excuse I need to go down to the water... to mess about in them:ph34r:

Very nice!

I hope you got enough to fill the smoker up.:)
The best salmon catching I have ever done was on Lake Michigan, I use my 14' deep V out there.

It really does a great job as I can go so slow that the bait is keeping pace.

It is a great time when conditions are good.

I can keep it out there up to 5' rollers if they are paced regularly.

It really pisses off the gold jewelry crowd.B|:D:D:D

I swear they think that if you have a really really fast boat it catches fish, I know you understand that one.

Looks cold

The mouth of the Columbia River is currently about 58 degree water and the air temps were about 63 that day s it was foggy most of the day close to the mouth. It did clear up a bit in the afternoon there on the upriver side of the Astoria Bridge but the fog was still obsuring Astoria itself over in the background. We went behind the point to get out of the rough water where it was easier to fish. But considering the rest of the country is coming to a slow broil.. I will stick with my nice salmon fishing weather:)
