Vigil AAD's....... What's the new poop?

Recommended Posts

OK...........I looked for info but all I came up with was some older stuff that talked about when they FIRST started to put them out and had a misfire. I hear they have been flawless since then. I just read JP's post about them. Sounds like a bit of a pain in the ass. Plus........I really don't need the gee-whiz features. I only need one mode. Since the money isn't really an object in this discussion...........What's some opinions on the quality and reliability versus the cheaper cost?

I like that you don't need to send them away. I've sent 2 cypreses away. One took 6 months, and came back with a problem that took me 2 years, a new reserve and about 9 pack jobs (on a 180 day cycle) to solve with little to no support from airtec. The other took 4 months and resulted in being AAD less for the recent trip to the US.

I've been using a Vigil in my "spare" spare rig (Kinda No 3 standby) for the past year, and since the recall for the "static" fire - have had no negative issues what so ever.

My next 2 AAD's, due in about a year - will be Vigils, if my current experience with them holds out. I'm loathe to reward people who fuck me around with more business.

I jump a Vigil and am very satisifed with it. In particular, the Vigil is of a much sturdier construction than the Cypres. I have always been turned off by the fragile construction of the Cypres and so I feel a lot better about the solid constructionof the Vigil.

And Before anybody feels offended and tells me that Cypres is not fragile, read your Cypres owners manual. It states it in there.

I'm sure Kim (kimgriffin on here) would be more than willing to give you some info. She was extremely nice when I was asking questions at the WFFC, whereas Cypres wasn't very interested in responding to the same questions. I ended up buying one on the spot (my rigger did too). I haven't had any problem and I second the sturdy construction sentiment.

I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF

I was checking out the vigil website because I'd like to know if there is anyway to check battery voltage on them. For those of you that have them, is there a way to check that?

One big bug up my nose with the Cypres2 is that there is no way to check the battery voltage.

I am also looking at the Vigil over the Cypres. It seems to make sense in the long run. Does anyone know of any saves that they have had?
Thanks

I read that they have reported 8 saves since the stacic issue fix. I'll try to find the supporting info.

EDIT: ok, they have reported 4 saves in the last 8 months according to the latest Parachutist magazine. plus they have fancy graph info on there web page from an "actual save"....

In facts, the Vigil checks itself the battery voltage at each start and delivers the following message : either battery OK or Battery low that still gives you the possibility of making about 25 jumps before it declares Battery down and shuts up the starting process.
