QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say emergency crews were sent to a Quincy hotel after a city employee fell several feet through an opening in the floor.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports the city's director of planning and development was giving a tour in the building when he fell. Authorities say he fell 8 to 10 feet.

Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning says the director walked through a door and there was no floor on the other side.

The employee refused medical treatment at the scene.

- "Alright contractors. We changed the blueprints. We'll now omit the door."

- How's THAT for planning?

- Damn penny-pinching contractors!. Always taking shortcuts.

- You assholes! I said omit the DOOR!

- News Flash: Experiments with floor design go haywire. "Drop Floor" patent proves unworkable.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

I've actually done that before. I was working in a set of trailers, and unbeknownst to me, some workers had pulled away the stairs outside the door and were building a wood deck. I opened the door and stepped out just like always, fell three feet to the pavement, and woke up a minute later wondering how they hell I got there like that.
