everything will be obsolete in 18 months...provided any of us are still here after 22 dec this year...i have heard that my playbook can use android apps, and 64gb for $300 to me was a no brainer, if the 7" screen is too small, i have reading glasses...

What I really want from my tablet is to have USB so that I can connect my GoPro/stills camera at the dropzone during a day of jumping - watch videos/debrief, backup stuff.. You need Itunes and a real computer to get anything on ipad, and that defeats the purpose

I think you may have been mislead by somebody early on about the capabilities of the iPad.

A person can, in fact, hook-up and download video and stills from a camera and edit them right on the device. In fact, it's one of the selling features that it can do video and stills as well as it can.

All you need is this:

And this:

And this:

Trivial -- really.

I was given 2 iPADs (original version) when they first came out. While I agree that they are POS, there are a couple of very good aviation apps, such as Foreflight. It's all I ever use mine for.

So I'm not really an Apple guy... no koolaid for me thanks (er well... actually... maybe... but not apple flavored)

But I've found my iPad to be very useful for a whole slew of things while I'm out of the country... (West Africa) and with the AT&T 3G version I can get a connection in a lot of the areas (albiet rather slow and not always the most reliable.

I use it to keep up on a lot of things... and can/do download digital Magazines (Economist), read books, check email, message with my wife (I bought her one for Christmas) and we use iMessage to communicate regularly since the internet speeds don't really allow me to Skype. (I have it in an otter box to protect it from bumps and bruises while here)

While in the states I use a directv applicatio, HBO and Cinimax to Go apps... and quite a few other applications above and beyond the basic browser and email apps...

I find the touch interface to be very intuitive and often don't have to get out my computer to do most things I need to do...

I do carry around an apple bluetooth keyboard which I find much more usable then the touch screen keyboard but I have short stubby fingers... so it's hard to type on screen (although it's better then the windows on screen keyboard...)
Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
