Hi Mike,

My folks bought their first tv set on 13 Jan 53.

One of the first things we watched was the inauguration of Dwight Eisenhower as President; the first time such an event was ever televised.

PS) Someone mentioned Ed Sullivan; anyone remember the actual name of the program?

Not exactly primetime but my dad and I used to get up at 3 or 4 AM to watch the Mercury and Gemini launches. At least a couple of hours of staring at the white transfer van and the venting "smoke" from the rockets before the launch (or not).
